Hi everyone,
I got into Reims!
Do you think you could add me to the Instagram chat? ig: celestetbh
@GSTourGuides Thank you very much!
Does anyone have statistics or information regarding post-Dual BA program – specifically, I was wondering how well students do in terms of law school admissions in the US.
We don’t really have any official statistics. Our program is still relatively young - we only have about five graduated cohorts, if I’m not mistaken (I believe the first class to graduate, having gone from 0A to graduation, was in 2016.)
So we only have anecdotal evidence about students doing well in terms of grad school. I can tell you that there are Dual BA students who have done extremely well with post-graduate opportunities. Two of my friends will be studying at Harvard Law School; there are some in Sciences Po’s law program as well. Another friend is at Cambridge now. I heard about one person who is doing his PhD in philosophy at Princeton. We recently had a Dual BA student get admitted to the extremely competitive Schwarzman Scholars program. There have been one or a few Dual BA Students who went on to become Rhodes Scholars.
There’s not too much data on graduate school matriculation yet, because most Dual BA students go on to work in the private sector immediately after graduating. (Presumably some of them will return to grad school in a few years’ time.) In terms of other opportunities, students have gone on to get very high-caliber jobs including at leading consulting, investment, and law firms; non-profits, think tanks, and NGOs; etc. (This is just from my quick glance over the Dual BA LinkedIn group.) One friend of mine is interning with the United Nations in Nairobi. Really the sky is the limit! If you browse the “News” section on the Dual BA website, you’ll get some of the highlight reel.
I think they’ll also talk about this at some point during accepted students day.
That’s great to hear!! Thank you for the information – I’ll look forward to the online webinar form of Q&A session for admitted students
@GSTourGuides just need your advice
I have been accepted, but I did not apply for financial aid. However, due to the covid pandemic, I am not sure whether my family will afford the last 2 years of the Program. Is it possible to get some financial aid from GS (for ex. in case of applying in the end of the 2nd year) or the chances are quite low?
I think you should contact that Dual BA admissions office to explain your situation and see what options they recommend. I’m not sure how it works if you want to apply for financial aid after getting accepted.
@GSTourGuides Hi, I just finished reading through the entire thread (it was REALLY informative, thank you!) and I’m an admitted student to the Reims campus struggling to make my decision. Would it be possible to get into contact with a current Dual BA student?
Yes! I’ll send you a direct message about putting you in touch with a current Dual BA student from Reims.
I also encourage you to join the accepted students Facebook group if you haven’t already. You can find it by searching on Facebook “Columbia-Sciences Po Class of 2024.” Other accepted students are joining the page and connecting with one another; there are also a few tour guides and other current students in the group who can answer any questions.
@GSTourGuides Hi, I have a concern about the student visa, I checked France-Visas website, it mentioned clearly that you must be over 18 years old. My 18 years birthday is the end of Aug 2020, but when I apply for the visa it should be in May or June (2 or 3 months from the age of 18), is it a problem to get visa? When I start my application, I should submit “student visa” or “minor student visa”? I believe I’m not the only person who have this concern. Thanks and nice weekend!
Source: I asked my friend who was also underage when she enrolled in the Dual BA - she did not turn 18 until October of our 1A. She applied for a minor student visa,
This would be a great question to ask the admissions team, as they can give a more official answer than I can. And you’re right that this is a common situation for accepted Dual BA students (meaning there is a solution for what to do).
She said you should apply for the visa which applies to you at the time of your application - in your case, this would be a minor student visa. You’ll have a different timeline for things, ie completing formalities for OFII (French Office of Immigration and Integration) and acquiring your titre de séjour (which is an official student visa ID card).
But again, I would advise you clarify this with the admissions team before you start the visa application process. As a side note, around May you should receive some more information about what you need to apply for your French student visa. And there will also be a virtual information session for each Sciences Po campus in June where you can ask any visa application (or other) questions you still have.
@GSTourGuides Thanks you so much, this is really helpful! Let me contact the admissions team for further information. Just one quick question, you mentioned that you have a friend who applied for the minor student visa before, but for this kind of visa, it needs a guardian in France, so who will be this guardian? Thanks again!
This is a good question. My friend who applied for the minor student visa used a guardian in the European Union (seems as if it doesn’t have to be in France). I tried asking around to see what other students in this situation did, but I think the best advice would be for you to email the admissions team for clarification and also to call the visa agency. There are also differences depending on your nationality, so the visa agency would be best placed to answer questions addressing your specific situation.
@GSTourGuides Very clear, thanks! I believe there should be solution for this. Good night!
Hi guys, what time we suppose to receive an email from Sciences Po with details about accessing online Student Space and setting up Sciences Po email account?
and what time we can receive the proof of enrollment ?
Do we need to submit house application before May 15? But without the proof of enrollment from Sciences Po, the application can’t be fulfilled.
Have a nice day!
So just looking through my old emails, we received information about gaining access to our Sciences Po Student Space around mid-May.
When you’ve set this up, you will be able to access your Certificat de Scolarité which serves as proof of enrollment and - alongside your official acceptance letter - will be needed to apply for the student visa.
For the housing application, you will likely do this in May as well. We received an email from the Sciences Po administration at our particular Sciences Po campus with some welcome information including information about housing and instructions for confirming your CROUS housing choice.
I imagine the timing may be different this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 complications, but the process should be similar. Basically just be patient - you will get all of this information after you have committed to the program, and you will be able to start the process and be on time for everything.
There will also be campus-specific online information sessions for all new Dual BA students in June which will go over a lot of this information and allow you to ask questions. And bear in mind that you can contact the admissions team as well if you have any problems.
@GSTourGuides that is really helpful! Thanks so much!
@GSTourGuides Hello, Today is May 02, one quick question, when the acceptance reply form was processed and tuition fee was submitted before May 01, does it mean the place in the upcoming class is secured, correct? Thanks!
Yes, once you’ve submitted the acceptance reply form and paid the tuition deposit, your spot is secured. Welcome to the Dual BA Program!
@GSTourGuides Thanks so much!
