I think Rice is a very good school overall but how well is it in the sciences? I've heard that in Engineering it is one of the best but how is it in the pure sciences such as math? What about computerscience? Biochem? Physics?

I have a friend who is majoring in Statistics and it seems to be a very strong program from what I have been told. They have excellent resources for computer labs that you can access both from the lab and from your room. Overall the sciences seem to be pretty strong and there are lots of resources on campus and around Houston. Check out the kinds of research that professors are doing and see if they are working with what you're interested in.

science is definitly very good. they spend so much money in that program.

Computer Science is apparently really strong at Rice. Oh wait. I just reread what you said. "I've heard that in Engineering it is one of the best..." Well, actually, Rice treats Computer Science as Engineering. lol.

i was just checking Rice's website and i noticed that they have math as a BA but not as a BS, does this mean their program is not as strong?

No. Math can be seen as an art. It is just not as sciency, if you will, as some of the other fields.

There's some talk of adding a BS in math, but nothing has happened with it so far. As it is, the BA in math is a really easy degree in terms of requirements (24 hours of 300- or 400-level math classes, less if you double-major in some math-related field). However, I'm really pleased with the profs and the classes, and if you're interested in math-related research, there are plenty of opportunities.
