Any tips on doing better on the science section? I just can't get that section down...

i go straight into the questions and don't even read anything (except the first little excerpt on what the entire passage is about... but i don't read the data or the tables or figures or any of that unless i get to it in the question)... science comes easily for me, so maybe that's why i don't have a set strategy with it

1st, what have you been getting on the science section?
2nd, what strategy are you using (if any at all)?
3rd, what study books do you have?

that info will help me answer the question a little bit better

i get around a 24 on science and i would like to make at least a 28. i really dont have a strategy. i've been trying to do as many practice tests as possible, if that is a strategy. i have the kaplan book, and i'll be taking the ACT in september.

thanks for the tip i'll try that. i usually get bogged down from reading everything and then answer questions.

Princeton Review and the Real ACT book are good for science.. Kaplan is too, but it's a little harder than the real thing

before i ever took the ACT, i read everything and then answered, and i was REALLY pressed for time.. i took 2 science practice tests that way and got a 26 and a 27 on them.. then i did another strategy (forgot what it was) and got a 24 on it... on my first actual ACT (June 07) i did this strategy here and got a 33 on the section.. on the other 4 ACTs i've taken, i've gotten two 31s, another 33, and a 34 on the science section using this strategy... it helps me on timing, and it's really all you need to do b/c the questions will usually only cover about 1/2 of the info there, if that

really, the key is to just keep practicing, and you'll eventually get the hang of it... just takes some time (which is unfortunate b/c time is so short sometimes..)

My problem is not with timing but rather with the material, it is hard I am working with barrons and I am getting about a 20 to 21 on the science section, but in the Princeton Review I got about a 26, I really don't understand why I am doing so poorly. I usually finish with extra time and I know I am good at science (all As) but somehow I am getting the questions wrong, and then in the explanation as to the right answer in the back they seem to be based on arbitrary things that are contentious at best. Did anyone else have this problem?

barrons is harder than the real thing thats why

barron's is very very hard.. if you're getting a 21 on barrons and a 26 on PR, then you should be able to get about a 28+ on the real science section
