Scoop on Haskell Hall?

My freshman D got assigned to Haskell. Any advise about this dorm? She is in a suite. Is this one of the "open" lounges that people trapse through on their way to other places or are the suites private? She said she has heard some negative things about this dorm. The location seems great to me, looking at the map and its proximity to the bookstore, Davis, the dining hall, etc. What's the scoop?

Hi,

Haskell is the Wren of the downhill. In the sophmore lottery, both Wren and Haskell are the absolute last dorms to go, mainly because the dorms are not very condusive to socializing. Suites are nice, but if your suitemates and you do not get along, then it is not the best environment.

Just IMHO.

Hope this helps...

Cheers!

Vlad

However, you are right about the location!

I lived in Haskell - not voluntarily, just got a lousy lottery number.

It really was not bad, once we got used to it. The suites are open, so people do meander through them. The walls on the inside are brick, which is kind of ugly & depressing. I covered my walls with tapestries and posters, which made it quite cheerful. Curtains on the window helped, too (just bring a tension curtain rod and very long curtains). The rooms are a decent size, and I got along amazingly well with my suitemates - really lucked into having them there. I did like the fact that we were sharing the bathroom (two toilets, sinks, & showers) with ten people, so there was more than enough room for us (contrast Lewis).

Normal sticky stuff will not work on the walls too well. Use Velcro, which is uber-sticky.

However, Haskell and Wren come with the added benefit that they're dead quiet with very little noise. This can be seen either as a curse or a blessing, or both.
