Score challenge

Our child took the PSAT as a sophomore and scored well above the state cutoff that year. The next yesr our child took the PSAT again. As our child was enrolled in virtual school a “brick and mortar” school was assigned for testing. During the administration of the test the public address system continually interrupted, fights occurred in the hall immediately outside the testing room and the test takers were actually relocated during the test. Our child left the building upset as police were on the way to the school in response to a fight. As a result, the second test score was lower yet still qualufying as a commended scholar. The semifinalists were announced yesterday and although our child’s most recent score did not qualify, the sophomore score was considerably higher than the current cut off. Although we contacted College Board by phone and email multiple times, we have received no resolution and are only told it is “under investigation” and has been “escalated”. Our child scored extremely high on both the ACT and SAT. Do we have any recourse in this situation? Has anyone ever challenged the College Board?

Hopefully this “escalation” is not too late. In the past, these things are handled within weeks after the test.

?? Have you contacted NMCorp? They’re the ones who make the decision in regards to this issue for NMSF qualification. You need to contact THEM… Hopefully, it’s not too late. If approved, they will use an SAT score if there’s one that was taken sometime around that PSAT test date.

When did your child take the SAT?

Note to any parents of Juniors reading this thread:

If your child has any issue on PSAT testing date (sick or test interference), then you (or the GC) need to contact NMCorp immediately.

The student or a school official must write to NMSC as soon as possible after the PSAT/NMSQT administration to request information about procedures for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program by alternate testing. The earlier NMSC receives the written request, the greater the student’s opportunities for meeting alternate entry requirements. To be considered, a request must be postmarked no later than March 1 following the PSAT/NMSQT administration that was missed. NMSC will provide alternate entry materials that require the signature of a school official.
