Question: The College Board states: “Score Choice gives you the option to choose which scores (by test date for the SAT and by individual test for SAT Subject Tests) you send to colleges in accordance with an institution’s stated score-use practice”Does this mean that, if a college is listed as“Send all scores,” if I [...]

Since some of the schools to which my common app will be sent “honor” score choice and others do not, would it be okay to list only 1 of my 2 SAT results on the common app, but send both scores to the schools that decline score choice? Or, could this discrepency raise a flag?

Yes, it’s fine to list only your top scores on your Common App as long as you ask the College Board to send all your scores to the colleges that require them.

i’m happily surprised to get that answer; as a separate/overlapping issue/question- do you have any idea why schools do not have a similar policy for the ACTs?

Some do. For instance, read these instructions from the Yale Web site:

You must report the scores of all of the SATs and SAT Subject Tests or all of the ACTs and ACT Writing Tests that youve taken. If you choose to fulfill the requirement with SAT scores, then its not necessary to send any scores from the ACT, even if youve taken the ACT. If you choose to fulfill the requirement using the ACT, then you dont need to send us any SAT scores unless you wish to do so. Whichever type of test you choose, you must report all your scores from every time youve taken that type of test. And if you choose to use a combination of SAT and ACT test results, you must report all scores from both agencies.

So, if you decide to apply to Yale using only the ACT, you must send Yale the results of every ACT you have taken (but you need not send any SAT results). On your Common App, however, you could choose to report only ONE of your ACT results, if other colleges on your list do not require all scores.

With a strong ACT score, and a very similar but slightly lower SAT score, do you think that it makes sense to submit both, not just the ACT?

I wonder if this might be beneficial in the eyes of the admissions committee as the tests assess knowledge/intelligence differently and therefore reinforce my abilities and potentials?

Lastly, if it makes any difference, I am from the northeast and am primarily looking at schools in the northeast.

If the SAT is close to the ACT, then it makes sense to send both. While admission folks may be quick to claim otherwise, I think that some of them (especially the “old guard”) are suspect when Northeasterners sent only ACT scores. It says to them (whether true or not) that the SAT scores weren’t so hot.
