Hey everyone. I want to talk about score choice and SAT 2s for a little bit. I got a 750 in m2 and 730 in physics and im pretty content with those scores. I want to be a CS major and maybe double in Econ, but I got a 560 in US History. Do you think its worth it to relearn all of US History to get my history score up considering its not part of my major? I know score choice allows u to select which scores u can send but some other colleges dont have that option. Also do you think these scores are okay for duke?

Did you take the ACT or the SAT? Duke is not allowing score choice this year. So if you took the SAT, you will have to send in all your SAT scores anyway. (your math and physics scores are good)

Verbatim quotation from http://admissions.duke.edu/application/instructions: “Standardized Testing. All candidates for admission must complete one of the following standardized testing options: the test of the ACT, including the writing exam or the College Board SAT, plus two SAT Subject Tests. Duke requires that students send their full testing record for either the ACT or SAT and SAT Subject exams taken in high school.”

so i should retake history? if i have to send all my scores then they willl see the history score

Somewhere on this forum I learned that if school wants to see all SAT score, it means all SAT 1 scores.

@seal16: I respectfully disagree; again, to quote from the current Duke Undergraduate Admissions’ policy: “Duke requires that students send their full testing record for either the ACT or SAT and SAT Subject exams taken in high school.” That appears entirely unambiguous, and it clearly means the results of ALL SAT and SAT Subject examinations MUST be provided. <a href=“Apply - Duke Undergraduate Admissions”>http://admissions.duke.edu/application/instructions is directly applicable.

@seahawks25: Obviously, even if you retake American History and your score markedly improves, Duke MUST receive ALL your SAT results (including both American History subject tests). I truly cannot judge whether retaking AH is worthwhile, without a far more comprehensive assessment of your entire application. Even then, the chances are you fall within the 25,000+ truly excellent and deserving candidates – all of whom would do very well at Duke – approximately 12 percent of whom will be offered admission. In aggregate, last year (for the Class of '18) 10.8 percent of the near 33,000 applicants were accepted, and every year that percentage gradually declines. It’s really a “lottery” for so many distinguished applicants – at Duke and at its handful of peer institutions. I am sorry this is discouraging, but I do wish you good luck . . . and the fact is, about 3,500 candidates will be admitted.
