I checked my June ACT score report, and the only thing I can tell you was that:

English: -1 = 35

Math: -4 = 33

Reading: -0 = 36

Science: -5 = 32

The science part isn’t hard-- just really really ridiculously long. If you get caught in reading the questions, you’re screwed.

^^You have a 34 composite score. Why the hell did you retake it again?

How do you know he retook it? Plus maybe he wants a 35 or 36

^^I just read in another thread he/she took it b/c he/she took the ACT without Writing in June.

highopes, how did you check on the score report how many you missed on the science section?

Yeah, I took it without writing before, or I’d be done with this inane crap.

I’m just hoping to maintain my 34 with an essay… what a stupid rule.

why did you take without writing. accident?

I was a lowly sophomore, expecting maybe a 29-30, assuming I would definitely be retaking it anyway, so I decided not to take the writing because I found it annoying and would rather not be bothered. But surprise, I got a 34, and it doesn’t count anywhere but Georgetown.

Did you expect the 29-30 after you took the test or before

Before.
10char

Seriously… they should loosen the curve for science, or give us 45 minutes. it’s way too rushed…

You should just send the 34 so they can see that you got 34 even if you do badly this time

wis3ly, I did the same thing as highopes :)

Except I took writing both times <_<

Colleges won’t even consider an ACT score w/o the writing test… my 34 means nothing, so hopefully I can replicate it. Otherwise I’ll just send my SAT…

Looking back, the science section was only hard for me because I tried to read everything before looking at the questions. If I had just skimmed the stuff then tackled the questions, I would have done so much better. Plus it was hard to simply look at the numbers and not go too in depth. Like on the genetypes questions, I thought to hard about it and somehow ended up contemplating mutualism (don’t ask me how).

same thing happened to me highhopes.

took the act, got 29 composite, 11 writing.

took it again, didn’t expect a good score, got 33 composite, no writing.

now this is my last chance, and I have to get as good of a score as I did before, my SAT is only 2130. Luckily I think I did better. Maybe.

On the 29 test though I had a 20 math score, and on my 33 I had a 32 math score. Things change eh?

^ It sucks, doesn’t it? They shouldn’t have a no-writing option. It only serves to screw people…

My SAT as of now is 2130, but I’m taking it again next week for a 2250+ so I have a safety net in case the ACT goes badly.

No way. Science should have the best curve.

I agree Jchang. When my proctor said 5 min i was incredibly surprised. I feel bad for kids who are just trying to get ok scores, that science section took a lot of incredibly quick thinking.
