Score Dilemma

So I have taken a few sat and sat2s but have never sent any scores. I signed up for the Oct for 2 sat2s and nov for the SAT1 to see if i can bring my scores up a little bit more. When i was selecting the oct and nov scores to be directly reported to Dartmouth (the free scores included during test registration), i also selected my best SAT score so far and my bio sat2. I will be retaking bio in oct but i just sent the old one just in case. Dartmouth only considers the higher one if someone sends 2 from the same subject anyways. However, does this mean that when i selected the older scores to be selected, 1 sat1 and 1 sat2, did they get reported to dartmouth right away? Also, is that okay if it did? Will that "start" my prospective "portfolio" at dartmouth or do i have to complete the pre-app/ed agreement to get it started?

Hmm to be honest your wording has thrown me a bit, but I beleive I understand what you’re asking. Yes your scores were/are going to be sent, and yes that’s fine. D only looks at your highest scores anyway. As far as if that starts your file, your scores will be saved, so yes it does. Hope that helped :)

The beauty of score choice is that you don’t have to let colleges that accept it see your low scores. Whether they “use” the highest scores or not, adcom are on record admitting they look at all scores. I would wait, see how you do, and send only your best scores.

thanks. do you know anything about the ED agreement and the pre-app? It says that both of those should be sent once you know that you want to apply to dartmouth. should i send them now, or wait?

Do you plan to apply ED whether or not the scores go up? If your scores are not competitive now, you probably want to wait until RD. There is little advantage to applying ED if you don’t have a hook, so risking getting rejected ED is not in your best interest.

yes i do plan to regardless of the score change. my scores are competitive though.

also, as i said before, while i selected the oct and nov scores (coming fall) to be directly sent to Dartmouth, i also selected my old SAT 1 and bio sat2. How come these were free of charge as well though? Should I have to pay b/c i didn’t select them to be sent to Dartmouth back when i signed up to take them? And just a follow up q, dartmouth accepts up to nov. scores for ED, right? On their website, however, it states that…

“Often senior year grades and scores do not reach us in time to affect the Early Decision process. In such cases, school records and testing through the junior year are used.”

It means exactly what it says. It’s okay to take them in November (SAT II more so than SAT I, although if you already have an SAT I on record, you’re set), but they won’t be a factor in their decision.
So, if you want the higher SAT I score to be looked at when they’re making decisions, apply RD.

Regular SAT > SAT Subject Tests

Prioritize taking those first, focus on those scores more. Good luck man.
