I am an international student who wrote the calculus BC exam.
I was DEVASTATED to see my results today.
I got a 1 !!! On the BC and an AB sub score of 3
I expected around a 4 on the BC. ;(
Could there have been an error? Can I verify it?
Also, will it make a difference if I check back on the 10th, when it officially releases for international students?
Please help me guys. This was totally unexpected. ;(
Exactly, I did the test really well and was expecting a 4 on BC and 5 on AB.
So, could there have been an error in the correction ? Might it get corrected by the 10th ?
I have no experience teaching AP, so take this for what it’s worth.
It sounds like it would have to be such a massive mistake that it probably would have been picked up right away. Anytime I have an A student who gets a C, I stop what I’m doing and look for an error.
I’m afraid that you may simply have done much worse on the exam than you think. A grade of 1 is pretty clear cut. Could it have been a 2? Maybe. But a 4??? It really doesn’t sound likely.
Did you take practice exams before the test? If so, did you score around a 4ish when you did them? There is a big enough gap in expectations and reality that it’s possible something did go wrong.
There have been cases where peoples’ FRQ packets are lost/not added to the final raw score, and I believe they requested their packets and had them scored and ended up receiving a much better AP score. Requesting CB to rescore your multiple choice by hand is also an option, but it costs money. I definitely remember that there’s an old thread on here where people talk about this more in depth, you could try googling for that thread for more info.
But also, know that the chances of your test being scored wrong are very low, and you may have to accept your score and move on.
Hmm OK. Thanks a lot for your opinions. @silmaril I scored 4s and 3s in the BC practice tests.
Maybe I did some catastrophic error
Oh well, guess I won’t be sending it then ;(
If you didn’t take the class at school, colleges won’t know you even took the exam. Just don’t self report your score. Also, a very limited amount of international schools offer AP, so it’s not expected that an international student have them, but it is still expected that you take the most demanding courses available to you.
