Topic: WE MOST RESENT IN OTHERS THE VERY FLAWS THAT WE OURSELVES POSSESS.

To us,the most obvious flaws in others are the ones that we possess ourselves.Since these flaws can be most easily recognised and pinpointed by us due to this reason, they are also the most resented due to their being so ubiquitous to us in the character of the person they belong to.Various examples from literature and comics support this theory.
In the book,"The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory,Mary Boleyn, the protagonist is eternally jealous of her sister. Her satisfaction remains only when her status in society is higher than that of her elder sister,Anne Boleyn's.She seduces the king solely for that reason, gaining satisfaction from the fact that,in consequence, she is becoming the most important woman in all of England. However, when her star falls and the king's attention falls instead on her sister's seductive charms, she resents her sister for having the same reasons-to become the most important woman in all of England and to surpass her sister in their eternal competition. She sees the same goal in her sister's eyes and now terms it as wrog even though she had the same ideas before, and hence tries to expose Anne's faults in doing so, multiple times.
In the comic strip,"Calvin and Hobbes",Calvin steals Susie's doll and asks for ransom in return.Susie, instead takes away Calvin's toy tiger and companion,Hobbes and refuses to return it to him.Calvin who had initially thought his idea to be a very good joke, now calls Susie a 'spoilsport' when he sees his own joke played back at him.He admits himself,"the joke's not funny when it's on you".Calvin was unable to see his own fault but easily recognises it in Susie. He resents Susuie's actions, and more so because Susie's actions had initially been his own.
In the Book,"Pride and Prejudice",by Jane Austen, the protagonist Eliza Bennet dislikes Mr. Darcy's seclusion from society calling him high headed and haughty. She recognises this fault of his because she herself doesn't "perform to strangers".They are both of similar character and dispositon and both dislike each other, because they see their own faults in the other so very clearly.
Thus,as illustrated by Mary Boleyn,Calvin,Eliza and Mr. Darcy,we do tend to resent those faults in others the most, that are present in ourselves.
