So, I'm a junior and I don't really understand the score sending process for the SATs. The college board website says I can send my scores to 4 colleges for free before sometime in June. Should I do this, or wait until fall when I send applications?? I thought everything was just included in the common app, why do you have to send scores separately from college board? I'm not even sure what schools I want to apply to, my list is still too big. Sorry if I sound kind of clueless, but can someone explain it to me? Thanks.

most people don’t send any scores until you are 100% certain what your college list is (which is usually not until fall of senior year). if collegeboard is offering to send some scores for free, you can if you like (assuming that you’re not planning on retaking the SATs or taking SAT IIs later, in which case I wouldn’t). if you end up not applying there, it doesn’t really matter since you didn’t pay anything to send it. if you do end up applying there, then, congrats, you didn’t have to pay for your score.

after you’re 100% of your college list you can send your scores to any colleges where you didn’t send your scores already.

you just go to the collegeboard website, log into your account, and send your scores. it’s a pretty simple process.

^ I don’t think “most people don’t send any scores” until they are 100% sure. Many people take advantage of this to send scores to safeties and schools require all scores anyway. For most schools, they will consider your best score or superscore anyway. Unless you want to do score choice (if the school accept that) to hide some score, there is no problem in sending out those free scores.
