760 math, 800 CR, 750 Writing (11 on the essay, 73 MC)
That's 1310 total, so not bad.
I might take it again, just because I know I can get an 800 on math if I'm not too damned proud to bother checking my answers. God knows why I spend the second half of the test time staring at the wall when I could be retaking the section.

As for those of you complaining about your essay, I would reserve judgement until after you see your essay, and get a chance to read through it again. It's quite possible that it's not nearly as good as you think it is. Good examples don't make a good essay. Furthermore, just because you think your introduction and conclusion were awe inspiring, doesn't mean they were even tolerably good; there's a lot of bias involved in evaluating your own work.

Of course, I'm just pulling that out of nowhere, perhaps there was a mistake in grading. I would, however, reserve judgement until the scan of your essay is released, and you can look through it. That goes for all of you.

I don't know why I got such a low score (660) on Verbal! I thought I did perfect. Should I order for the handscore- service?

Should i retake the sat? I usually get 12s on my essay. I was hoping for over 700 on the writing, but i don't know what happened.

I thought I did a lot better in math. There were two that I know I missed because of stupid mistakes, so either the curve was incredibly harsh or I made more stupid mistakes. And I knew I did bad on CR, but damn... I didn't think I did that bad.

I'll probably retake it again. I was sick the day of the test and high on Dayquil, lol. I usually do a lot better on CR and Math (old SAT: V:800, M: 740). So since I've received letters saying they will take composite scores, I was mostly just concentrating on writing. Essay: 10. Does anyone know if they treat composite scores differently from single taking scores?

Can you share with us how you prepared for the CR and Writing sections. Thanks!

Looks like the kids that took the test on April 2nd have to wait another week :(. Anyways, what was the math curve for you guys? 1 wrong=790?

D did fine...mid to highesh (just made this word up I think) 700s on all three sections. She'll probably retake just to drive the math up closer to 800...wants Rice badly and we think it will be necessary.

Questions though for anyone in the know.....

D received a 760 on writing...80 out 80 on mc, but a pretty low essay score. She's considered one of the better creative writers at her school, so I'm a bit mystified. I see posts re: regrading. How is this accomplished?

Also, don't want to jinx this, but her PSAT scores pretty much assure her semi-finalist....but does she wait until she is officially notified in the fall before she sends SAT I scores to NMSC? And does NMSC only want to see one set of SAT I scores?

Congratulations to all of you...the scores I'm seeing at this thread are outstanding!!

flyinv, 1 wrong is 790 i promise. i know i screwed up 1 ? & thats what i got.

Laurensmom, Unfortunately writing creatively is not rewarded on the new SAT. Sticking closely to the formula the college board has presented is. I'd say your best bet to find out about having her essay re-examined would be the College Board website itself, with perhaps a phone call or two to them to find out how it's done. Good luck and congratulations to your daughter on such terrific scores!

As a student currently enrolled in an ivy league institution who remembers all too well the arduous nature of the college admissions process, I must say that many of the people who posted on this thread need to re-evaluate whether or not they have nauseating personalities. Seriously, whining about, "omg, I only got a 2290" makes you a gigantic tool.

thanks carolyn. I will do exactly as you suggest. I was afraid they were interested in more concise, formulaic writing...sounds as though it is very possible she received a fair score.

Yeah, well neither does sticking to the formula. I know how Lauren must feel about the essay. I got a 8 for an essay that deserved a 10 or higher (in my opinion). I had two solid body paragraphs about Romet&Juliet and the Spanish American War, solid intro and conclusion, clear thesis, good transitions, sentence variety, and good vocabulary words (maxim was one of them). The essay grading seems random to me. However, getting it regraded is a good idea. The regraders don't have time crunches to get thousands of essays done and can step back and look at what the essay is trying to say. This good for some people and bad for others. I don't think regrading can hurt you, so do it.

By the way, my score was dropped from a 730 to a 700 while yours was dropped from a 800 to a 760. We're in similar company.

scrabblemaster...if you remember "all too well the arduous natrue of the college admissions process", I hardly think it is kind to take to task those who are just trying beat a system that rewards a mere one in ten.

And, btw...'takes one to know one'. :-)

haz...d also received an 8. I see from other posts, that had she received a 10, she would have had an 800. She really thought she had done well on the essay...was very pleased with it. I guess we'll wait and take a look at the scoring details and if they don't make sense, ask for a regrade. I do know her style of writing is very entertaining, Frank McCourtish/Caleb Carrish (making up more words...grin), so it may not have been CB's cup of tea.

I might retake but I'm also very happy with my score.

690 CR / 610 M / 780 W = 2080

Maybe if my test hadn't started two and a half hours late....

See every one in May.
