Scores in!

Carolyn - Congrats to you and to your DD - that is awesome - and I understand Whitman is a fantastic school - another skiier?? - so my best wishes go out to her. What a difference a test makes!!!!! And bless her heart for all her hard work - be proud!!!

We also knew that feeling of great improvement in test scores - when my DS took his SAT's in the late fall - his scores did not go along with his high school stats at all - he was in the top crew of his class - all honors and AP classes - 3.8 GPA at the time - we could not figure out what happened and wondered if something was wrong. He was complaining of headaches here and there - so we took him to the doc - he recommened we have his eyes checked - and low and behold!!! - there was a problem in Housten. They eye doc jokingly said to him - I hope you aren't planning on a career that requires alot of reading - oops - DS was considering pre-med at the time lol.

He has a very strange vision problem and a lazy eye - so he was given prism glasses to correct this for reading - we had NO idea he was having any reading problems - except he kept saying it took a long time for him to complete and comprehend reading assignments - tho he never told us he had to re-read everything!!! He said it was like having dyslexia!! A month later he retook the SAT's - and woah!!!! - his scores went up 100 points in each part!!! And opened the door for him at his #1 school - his ONLY application also!!!. What a feeling!!!!!

Congrats! If she goes to Whitman maybe my Ds can do an overnight with her! They both loved the school.

Carolyn,
I knew it!!! I am so happy for your D!

Congratulations, Carolyn and Amanda! I had a feeling she would surprise you. Now you can focus your search and get down to it.

Just found this thread referenced elsewhere....

Congrats to your D, Carolyn. And good luck with Whitman...it would rank very very highly on my list of West Coast schools.

Yay Carolyn!! :) Yay Carolyn's D!! :)

Hayden--I'm coming to this thread very late, but perhaps you might want to check out the FairTest website (<a href="http://www.fairtest.org/univ/optional.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.fairtest.org/univ/optional.htm</a>) for schools--including some top LACs like Bates, Bowdoin, Hamilton, Middlebury, and Mt. Holyoke--that don't require the SATI or the ACT for admission.

Lastbastion - thanks for thinking of me. I appreciate that. My daughter is not giving up hope, and will be taking the SAT's again, obviously. If she gets the same answer, she will look at the schools you suggest, as well as settling for schools at the lower end of the SAT range. Oh, well. As one wise person on this board once said, they will land where they land.

But congratulations to carolyn and everyone else who has a good story so far! I'm very happy for you.

Hayden, This bounced back up so I wanted to also add that I would recommend the Fairtest site. I would also suggest that your daughter try the ACT - there's one in June and I believe it is not too late to register.

But more importantly, I would tell her that it's time to start visiting some of her realistic choices - as I have found with MY daughter, there are some exciting, challenging and fantastic schools among those ranked 50-100, and even some terrific schools not in the top 100 of national schools. Looking at the websites of some of these schools, doing a few visits, and just remaining hopeful is the way to go. Once she's found some she likes, you can sketch more selective schools to the list - by then she may very well have taken the ACT and done very well or retaken the SATs and done even better.

If you want to PM me and tell me more about her, I'd be happy to come up with a list of suggestions for her.

Thank you so much, carolyn ! I think I'll do just that.
