Hey guys I was wondering how highly I need to score on my SAT/ACT to be competitive in the Stanford admission process. I have heard at least 700 for each SAT category, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I got a 2050 my first time on the SAT, 620 reading, 710 math, 720 writing. How much do I need to raise my score to be competitive?

Check the Stanford Common Data Set, Section C9

Thanks I’ll look at it

A “competitive” score is going to be at least 750/750/750, or at least close to that.

That being said, you can be a “competitive” applicant without having a competitive score, before people start going off on me about that. But just from a score point of view, competitive is yes, at least 2250.

Thank you for the information, I will be working to improve my score!

Be aware that top scores alone will not ensure your spot at Stanford. We know several kids (including our S) with virtually perfect grades and test scores who were either Deferred, Waitlisted or Rejected. Based on our experience, you’ll also need some sort of powerful hook and/or very strong Legacy to secure one of those coveted Acceptances.

Good luck to you, and also to all who are waiting to hear this year!

Is a 32 composite high enough on the ACT for a reasonable chance (number wise) at Stanford?

Numberwise I’d say you want a 34 at least. Again, numbers aren’t everything, but if they were, a 32 wouldn’t cut it at all.
