Scores vs. GPA

I scored a cum. 36 on the ACT but only have weighted 3.68 (very rigorous schedule if that means anything...)

What does this say to schools like Brown (the dream), etc.? Can my scores compensate for my average GPA?

If you can squeak that GPA over 3.7 this spring it would be good. That seems to be about the cutoff for top schools, although maybe they round up (no one knows for sure!). A GPA of 3.7 and a 36 on the ACT will keep you in the pile to be considered, then it is a matter of how the rest of your application stacks up.

Also depends on the rigor of your school. If 3.68 puts you in the top 10%, it’s better than if you are in the 2nd decile.

please don’t say “cum” on the internet

it depends on your unweighted and class rank for GPA, as they are essentially arbitrary

wGPA at 3.68 is very low. What is your uwGPA then? This is a typical negative example of overwhelmed with rigor courses and suffered in GPA. It does hurt your chance.
