Scores

oh yes!! pabada machher jhol … and i forgot kosha mangsho and mochar ghonto… :)

and i don’t know how abege-poripurno i am… but idefinitely am Bangali… :D

:) :stuck_out_tongue:
me too…

i wish CC had a like option like Facebook, you know… :P

^ Its good that it doesn’t. CC must not turn into fb.

@OP: In truth most people who apply to the highly selective colleges like you have scores like you do. The “hook” that gets them in is not always academically related. Or if it is then it is something like winning the Math Olympiad or something in that vein. Make yourself stand out from the crowd. So whats your hook? That is what that matters. Good Luck!

I was able to predict the essay questions of the Common App before they were released. That’s a very strong achievement/hook, in my opinion.

^^
Haha, that was funny.

i must confess that i did not even try guessing the common app essay options… in fact, i learned about the common app only in September… :</p>

Seriously… hook?

well i qualified in the National Talent Search Exam at the state level and then the national level and cleared the interview. So now i receive an annual scholarship from the NCERT, Govt. of India.

and i won some regional topper awards in those private olympiads - unifiedcouncil, SOF and the like… no IMO or IPhO or anything…

so does that count as any sort of a hook… and of course being indian, i’m a minority so i guess i would qualify for UMRPs in some colleges ( i know i do in Harvard) but i also know that doesn’t count for much…

I’ve never heard of this before. Indians are minorities? Mind disclosing the source of your information?

^Agreed with rsaxena, Indians as minorities? I would’ve thought we are the most over-represented ‘minority’ there is, barring the Chinese. And this doesn’t take into account the thousands of Indian origin Americans. I don’t think being an Indian boosts your application except perhaps in colleges that have little or no International students, and in colleges like Harvard it certainly isn’t a hook. I may be wrong, so if you have a legitimate source do share.

Being Indian will certainly help at Purdue! :D

i received a mail from umrp@fas.harvard.edu inviting me to apply to Harvard as part of the asian american community there and UMRP stands for Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program.

But i ain’t sure if its a hook at all…

Hello! On behalf of the Asian American community on campus, we would like to congratulate you on your considerable academic achievements and invite you to consider applying to Harvard.

Harvard provides a challenging and stimulating environment for both your academic and extracurricular pursuits. Classes with acclaimed professors, research opportunities in all disciplines, and world-class facilities contribute to academic enrichment. Harvard also has over 400 student organizations that provide a wealth of extracurricular options from dramatic arts to media to community service. The Asian American community at Harvard has an active presence on campus and boasts numerous South Asian, Southeast Asian, and East Asian groups.

While Harvard is renowned for its academic excellence, we strongly believe that one of our greatest strengths is the exceptional diversity of the student body. Almost 40% of the student body is composed of minority students, with Asian Americans representing approximately 18% of all undergraduates.

We are here to help you in the application process, so please feel free to contact us. We can be reached through email at umrp@fas.harvard.edu, and you can also find out more about Harvard at [Harvard College Admissions Homepage](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu). Hope to hear from you soon!

Is this the mail you received ? I’m guessing you scored well on your SAT, apparently colleges send you mails inviting you to apply if you score above a certain point.I’m pretty sure it isn’t a hook

yup… the very same…

@all who had doubts… there you go… no hook… :|

Lol I got that email in September or October as far as I remember

And how can you apply * now * anyway? :P

And yeah, Indian passport = Purdue admit.

I know sum1 who got rejected

^ Lol. I’m sure people from India do get rejected from time to time. Ani and everyone else were probably just joking about the Indian passport thing.

Yes we were…

And I’m sure that the rejected guy had a 1300/2400 SAT and like 60% in the boards.

Does Purdue offer scholarships for Indians? Someone told me that an Indian having a 2200+ SAT score gets a full scholarship there.

Ha ha…It was just a joke!
