Hey everyone,
I’m feeling quite down about my stats. When I first received my SAT scores, I was SO proud of my 1280. After hearing from my friends and from people on here, I realized that it’s really not that impressive. I’ve taken the SAT four times and do not want to take it again (it’s really not good for me, in my opinion). I feel really inadequate and worried. I have an amazing GPA but my school does not inflate grades. I am scared that is all admissions officers will see. I just think I’m a bad test-taker, and this worries me so much.
I’m a type A student who works extremely hard. Like anything else, I studied very hard for the SAT and feel really inadequate. I feel like this will be the reason I don’t get into my dream schools. I want to have at least a 1300, but it’s not going to happen. I feel so discouraged.
I know “my grades don’t define me,” but…they do. They do now. Sometimes I question if I’m intelligent at all. I need some reassurance from anyone who has gone through this, if possible…
sat doesnt measure intelligence, ignore it what can you do about it. sat is about timing and etc.
by the way i am the int student who started preparing for sat only 2 months agoo … ( i know i am stupid) i got 1060 on my first try (i had no idea about format, didnt have any practise), after preparing for 1 month i got 1150, but after that i sat down and wrote every punctuation rule, started doing tons of full tests ( did like 10 english ones i think lol) and retook sat general math tests ( 9 tests). (tons of khan academy ) night before my final DECEMBER exam, i couldnt sleep for 5 hours in bed… was terrible, i slept only 3 hours and eventually got 1320. improvement of 170 points in 1 month
you just have to practise as much as you can ,but only practise aint enough what matters is EFFICIENCY.
you can do it bro <3
wish someone told me to start preparing for SAT earlier… i could easily get 1500 .-.
by the way , king college has late sat report for example, or uni of edinburgh, imperial college london, university college london. you could retake it for them and they’re far better than most of overrated us universities
dont let people discourage you, ignore negative , discouraging comments.
well, it honestly depends on the schools you want to get into
but either way, don’t feel bad about yourself because of a score. I did that to myself for a while and in retrospect see how unhealthy it was. And don’t base your self worth on people from CC because so many are freakishly smart geniuses (and I love y’all for it, but it can make one feel a bit inadequate). I did very well on standardized tests, but not as well as I wanted to. What changed my outlook was when my dad told me that I’m smart but not the best and I need to accept that. It’s an important message, in my opinion.
If you want to raise your score, go ahead and try. If you’re not a senior, you have plenty of time. If you are, it’s probably time to let go of it.
@greenteen17 Yeah, I’m a senior and I don’t really have time. It’s just discouraging because I do great in the classroom. I know I’m not the best and I’m okay with that, but I just wish my numbers/stats reflected my performance in the classroom. Thanks for the encouragement
@brainscistudent please don’t be disheartened. If you’re a senior, I would make sure and apply to schools that fall within the range of your stats to ensure that you have a good list from which to choose in April…one will bound to be your “dream” school. Remember, SAT scores don’t define you…what defines you are what you accomplish in college based on hard work and good attitude, AND good friendships you make while pursuing your interests in college. Hugs and best of luck!!
yes, I totally understand that feeling. Are you considering any test optional schools.I don’t know what kind of schools you’re looking at, but there are top schools such as Wesleyan and Bowdoin that are test optional.
@greenteen17 All of the schools that I have applied to require scores. I live in Virginia, so there aren’t many, sadly. I would prefer not to go out of state because of the price. I have gotten into three colleges, but my topic choice (William & Mary) is selective and I don’t want to be discouraged when results come out if I’m denied.
@Derpthulu From where are you applying? It’s interesting hearing opinions from students across the globe. It’s comforting to hear that others are going through what I am going through. Congratulations I don’t feel so alone. I would love to go to college in London (I traveled there two summers ago and absolutely loved it), but sadly money is a factor! Good luck on your college applications!
british unis are MUCH cheaper , like 2 times cheaper than us universities mostly. also you could try applying to EDINBURGH university? much cheaper option than london. edinburgh uni costs around 19k $ per year, there are tons of scholarships + living in edinburgh is not as expensive as london, its much cheaper.
yea screw finances… if that wasnt problem i could go to tons of great universities in US Q_Q
