Scoring the ACT. quick question about the scales

Hey so I've been taking a few practice tests with mcGraw Hill at the end of calculating your scaled score they have you add 1 point or 1.5 points or something. My friend told me on the real ACT he got three reading questions wrong and still got a 36. i assume this is because of the correction factor. why doesnt the "official real act book" do this correction factor in their tests? is it because there isnt really a correction factor on the real act or is it because they just didnt feel like putting it in the book? also, can there ever be a negative correction factor?
