Scottish Rite Dormitory

Is anyone else planning on living here next fall? I need a roommate! I hear SRD doesn't do too great with matching roommates.

My daughter plans on staying at SRD but we heard just the opposite. Everyone we have known has always been matched with a great roommate. I will say she will not want a TV in her room (only person in our house that does not have one currently in her room by choice) and she likes a pretty tidy room. So if that flys, send me a message and I will give you her email address. If not…totally cool…you have 300 other choices…lol

A friend of mine was kicked out of SRD in the 80s for having a boy in her room. Is it still uber strict? Most colleges we are looking at are co-ed by suite.

^^^ SRD is still all girls and is pretty strict with thier boy policy…however, my D lives at Hardin House and there are no boys allowed in thier rooms EVER. I will say that D was a little bummed about that at first…even though she doesn’t have a boyfriend at the moment…but she is glad now because her roomate does have one and if her were allowed in thier room, he would probably be in there all the time…so there is something to be said for a stricter boy policy :)

SRD, as stated above, is all girls and the boy policy is boys on the residential floors on Fridays and Saturdays only from (I think noon-10:00 PM). Now boys can be in the downstairs study areas any day (I believe that is what they said) but never in the gym or at the pool. We are a fairly “old fashioned” family and our daughter felt seeing guys walk down the hall wrapped in towels was just too awkward. She also didn’t want any chance of being sexiled over night.

Hey I’m thinking about applying there too! Have you gotten in?

To get a housing contract at Scottish Rite, you need to get on the contract list very soon. It takes an application, a $250.00 deposit ($200 is refundable if you change your mind). February 1, 2011 they will mail all contracts out and the return of the contact plus a $750 deposit will secure your room. The key is to return that contract ASAP (and by that I mean within a few days). Kind of aggressive, but 100% worth it. It really is a beautiful facility and the costs are right in line with the UT dorms, the food is better, there is no $ cap on the food plan, the kitchen will pack you a lunch if you will be on the otherside of campus, trainers in the gym, private pool, weekly housekeeping service, “house moms”, etc. I personally feel it’s a great deal.

UTAndrea…if you want to live in SRD, you need to get your stuff in very quickly! My D really wanted to live in SRD, but was put on the waitlist…we decided that rather than risk her having to live in the dreaded JESTER, we went ahead and went with Hardin House. She really likes Hardin and especially the West Campus location, but she has heard that the food is much better at SRD and we loved the lobby etc…it really is a beautiful facility.

I loved living in SRD back in the 80s, and hope that my daughter will stay there if she gets into UT. I lived there all four years, I liked it so much! Hanging out at the pool is one of my favorite memories.

collegeshopping, Creepily enough I don’t plan on taking a tv either! Ironically I have a super nice plasma that hasn’t gotten watched once in two years.

UTAndrea, I sent in my application a few months back and yes i’ve already gotten accepted to ut! hurry and send an app in if you want to get a room, contracts go out in less than a month!
