Hi, boston college is my number one school and i want to know what are my chances of getting into boston college CSOM through RD?

i go to a very small school with only 100 people in my grade and a limited amount of AP classes. i have a weighted GPA of 91.48 and my best cross sectional SAT score is a 2130, 710 math, 700 reading, and 720 writing.

At the time only juniors and seniors took AP classes, i took AP US in my junior year and Calc BC, AP lit and AP environmental in my senior year. all my classes are honors,

i have consistently been participating in chorus, and in school concerts.
I have also pursued my passion for art by taking art elective classes four years straight.
i’ve been involved in key club for a year,
christian club for two years,
and news makers for one, i was the art director of my news makers club.

i’ve done volunteering at a doctor’s office and a daycare.

i’m also in Arista, the national honors society in my school.

i wanted to do EA but i called boston college and one of the admission counselors told me my chances would be better in RD since i have the most rigorous curriculum in my senior year. and also, would it increase my chances if i made improvements on my grades in my senior year, or would it just not matter too much? thanks

Dear leohcakes : Let’s start your review somewhat differently than others. Why do you want to attend Boston College? Not once in your several paragraphs do you indicate why you want to be part of Boston College’s student body. Further, there is no indication in your background that you have previously taken any interest in business applications; hence after you answer “Why BC?”, next question is “Why CSOM?” Both of these questions will need to be framed and answered by your essay, so as a regular decision candidate, you now have a heads-up on some work that needs your attention.

Next, let’s turn our attention to the numbers. Superscoring as a practice on the SAT is flawed for many reasons, but my guess is that you have supplied your numbers in this manner to have all your sectional tests at 700 or better. With a GPA at 91.48, the likelihood of your being a top ten student from your class of 100 seems small. However, you will likely be in the top twenty-five students.

There is nothing in your extra-curriculars that shouted to me, “oh wow, we need to know more about this person”. Your activities read like thousands of others and within that context, it is not clear that you have actually led a program or effort from start to finish. Your extra-curriculars read like “I was part of this and I attended”.

Your doctor’s office work (medical or nursing) and daycare (education) seem more geared towards applications in the three other schools at Boston College rather than CSOM.

So, in closing, your work is likely in the range of your school’s toughest curriculum. Your SAT scores without superscoring would be interesting to see as that will really be a better measure of where you will stand. (At superscoring, you are right around the entry point on the top quartile of accepted students.) Your school spirit and presentation of extra-curriculars seems to need some work to explain what makes you a special candidate for the campus. My fear is that your essay is not addressing some core points raised earlier as I cannot draw a straight line from your application/profile to your ending desire to be a BC CSOM student.
