SCPS: Hospitality Stuff

Hello everybody, I've been accepted to SCPS for hospitality/tourism this fall and I'm really excited to go. I have a couple of questions though (I tried combing all the threads to satisfy them, so forgive me for repeats):

Personally I love doing internships and being on the jobsite, do freshman get good internships? (do they get interships, period?) And by that I mean that the internship experience was informative and pertinent towards the major.

I'm just coming in as a freshman this year, but my parents are already riding me about job placement. Are there good hookups in SCPS with the industry and does the school continue to help you out even after you graduate? (with jobs and other assorted opportunities?)

How does the curriculum balance out? For example I heard that UNLV's program for hospitality is very strong in a practical sense while Cornell's program for hospitality is stronger in conceptual learning. Where does SCPS fall into?

I'm really hoping to study abroad during my time at NYU. I just wanted to know if anyone familiar with the hospitality program would share there experiences with me? Just like how everything works and stuff and how working at a foreign hotel compares.

And lastly, although this is not really just a SCPS question, when are the health forms supposed to arrive? I checked the site, but it doesn't give a date. It does say to shoot them an e-mail if you didn't get it, but when are you SUPPOSED to get it by?

Thanks to everything one read/skimmed my questions. Hope you guys can help me out.

the hotel management program at NYU is very well connected and you will meet a lot of people who will be able to help you get an internship. The problem right now is figuring out what path you want to go. A few of my friends decided to take the food and beverages path while others decided on events. Typically people don’t start working or interning at the Ritz or MO until sophomore year. Most of the professors who lecture for Hospitality are very successful so you can easily use them as a reference for a job if you do well in their class.

the SCPS program falls under a little of both but the biggest advantage is just being in the city. There are a lot of site visits because all the hotels are accessible and you will get a chance to meet a lot of General Managers.

I don’t think the health forms are too urgent. You can always visit the health center and explain you never received the forms when school starts.
