Scrambling for Subject SATs

Hi guys! Any insight regarding this issue would be really appreciated.

Right now, I’m coming from an upper-middle class background and have taken 1 subject SAT and no SAT. My 1 subject SAT was the Math 2 subject test, but I got a score that is pretty low for most applicants in my region (780).

I was planning on making up for this by taking a US and Literature subject test (so I would have taken 3 subject tests in total), and hoping that higher scores for these two tests would help (especially because I’m planning to major in English in college). However, I also need to take the SA, and was thinking about dropping the US subject test so I could study for the SAT and literature subject test adequately. However, that means I would only be taking 2 subject tests by November 1st, one of which is a relatively low score for applicants from my school. Would this make me a less competitive applicant (and, if so, to what extent?)

To make things more complicated, I was also thinking of applying to Georgetown. In the past, Georgetown has strongly recommended 3 subject tests, but this year they’re also adding that subject tests can be replaced by AP scores. If I end up submitting 2 subject tests and 1 ap test score as a replacement, do you guys think that would lessen my chances?

Thanks! I really appreciate any insight.

I think 780 is very good score! I think you will be fine with two subject tests and 1 AP at Georgetown the admissions team is very much aware how challenging testing has been for everyone this year. Good luck!

I’ve never seen any CB scores by region - what is your data source? When you say “applicants” - to what school?

Georgetown has committed to any 3 of Subject Test or AP, so unless I had data to show otherwise, I’d assume any combination of the three would be considered equally. What AP scores equates to what ST score is anybody’s guess. For somewhere like Georgetown, I’d probably want to submit a 5.

There are very few schools, if any (none come to mind) where a Math 2 780 wouldn’t be very competitive for an English major.

Sorry-when I say region, I’m not really citing any statistics. More so, my district/the surrounding suburb is very wealthy, and a lot of students who take the Math 2 subject test end up getting full scores. When I say applicant, I meant in general (e.g if taking 2 subject tests instead of 3 subject tests detracts from what I’m ‘presenting’ to colleges).
Alright–the insight on the subject tests definitely makes me feel a lot better, haha! Thanks so much for your response.

Alright, this is super reassuring–thanks so much!
