Scranton Worth it?

Thanks. I completely agree that Scranton should have handled it differently.

I’m so sorry that your daughter has had an allergic reaction. I pray that she’ll get over it quickly.

About the religious exemption, you’re right @MYOS1634, there wouldn’t be a blanket religious exemption like the type you mention, but there is still room for individual conscience objection in church teaching. This could still be called a religious exemption because the established teaching of the church is against abortion and the individual’s conscience was formed on that, but I can see how others might prefer to call it personal.

In one neighboring diocese, I was told that the priests have been told not to provide any letters for religious exemption. I think even in the Church there is a suspicion that people will try to use it as a way out and not because they are genuine conscientious objectors.

I think there are priests out there who knowing an individual’s established commitment to the fetal cell line issue and objection to fetal tissue experimentation will provide letters or signatures or whatever, but I think they will be cautious in doing so. And perhaps they would also remind the person of their obligation to protects others in choosing not to be vaccinated.

It’s a crazy thing. Her throat has been swollen since two days after she got the shot. Her doctor thinks it triggered her peanut allergy which had been managed until now. She is on steroids but is still uncomfortable. It’s scary for her. Thank you for your prayers.

Wow!
