I realize how different the two are, but, careerwise, which is more difficult to pursue? Also was wondering, is the mfa training for screenwriting and playwriting pretty much the same? I mean, if I did a playwriting mfa, would I be able to make the transition to screenwriting fairly easily, or would I be stuck in playwriting? Thanks a lot!

does anybody know where I can find this information? Thanks.

Maybe one reason you are not getting much of a response is that the readers of the forum, including myself, don't know enough about this. One thing you could do is thoroughly read websites and brochures of college MFA screenwriting and playwriting programs and see what you learn from that. THEN if you visit a program, ask to talk to a faculty member and to a student to glean the answers to these specifics and as to what graduates are doing and how best to prepare for and enter those fields and if one particular degree is more appropriate for your goals than another. By talking to those in these departments, plus any professionals, you can find out a lot. I know I learned a lot about architecture and the various paths to becoming an architect through our college visits to departments where my D was able to talk to department chairs and professors and also students and it was very informative. I see the same in your situation.

Best to you,
Susan
PS...did you know that Tisch has a graduate program in musical theater writing? My D thinks that sounds great (though she is very into going for performing but she really loves that end too).

The Tisch Musical theater writing program is amazing! My S. actually spent 2 years working with the writers presenting their work. I was amazed at some of the projects. Any Musical theater people at Tisch should look into performing for these projects it is hard work but really pays off. My S. had to memorize a whole score in 2 hours! I know that sounds crazy but it really tunes up your sight reading.
