My daughter was just accepted to the screenwriting/playwriting major. I know that this is a new major, to replace the discontinued Dramatic Writing major. It's officially in the Theater Arts Conservatory, but it is a BA, not a BFA, degree. Does anyone have any information to share about it?

Hey, I’m a student in that major. It is definitely a B.A., but its position in the Conservatory makes this one a very demanding major. The Playwriting side of it, however, has the harder focus, while the Screenwriting side is easier. Expect to see a lot of plays–there are playgoing classes to take and everything, and Purchase’s Repertory Theater is a staff favorite choice for their curriculum’s each semester. Your workshop classes are solid four hours, once a week, and the other classes depend. I hope this helps, and if you have other questions, feel free to ask!

Hi, my daughter was also accepted to the screenwriting/playwriting major. Do you know how many students are enrolled in this major? How competitive is it to get accepted? I was told that about 400 apply and about 15% got in.
Thanks
