Screwed thanks to underclassman years?

So, I'm interested in the journalism programs at University of Missouri (Top Choice) and SUNY New Paltz.

Freshman year, I received a D in Biology and World History for the second semester.

Sophomore year, I failed Algebra 3-4 & Chemistry first semester and got a D in both second semester. I also received a D in US History and Honors English, due to having terrible teachers. (Not an excuse, I know.)

I'm retaking Algebra and Chemistry this year, so the Fs will be dropped from my GPA, but will remain on my transcript (with an asterisk denoting that it was retaken).

I've got really strong ECs, including being on the Youth Advisory Council for a nationally recognized organization. My ECs are becoming even stronger within the coming year.

A family friend is a Mizzou alum, and she offered to write me a recommendation when the time comes.

What do you think? Am I screwed beyond repair to go anywhere but Portland Community College?

ouch… idk just talk about it in your essays…
colleges look for improvement overall… i think

Definitely ouch. I pretty much had my priorities backwards, spending all my time on ECs and none on homework.

i don’t think you’re screwed…
but you definitely have work to do

if possible, you should retake all those failed classes
you can tell the colleges that you had your priorities wrong, and then you fixed it! which shows that you saw what was wrong. maybe taking a couple extra classes at your CC would help too

I’m retaking the classes that I failed, but I most likely will not be able to retake my sophomore English and History classes, or my freshman Bio or History classes. I have no space or money.

However, I’m working to take some CC classes as well  Thanks!
