Hello, these are my grades, is there still a chance to get a high GPA???
1st six weeks:
Spanish for Spanish Speakers: 96.07
Algebra 1: 82.29
Art 1: 95.55
2nd six weeks:
Spanish for Spanish Speakers: 97.54
Algebra 1: 77.43
Art 1: 89.28
I’m in 8th grade, and these 3 classes are for 1 high school credit in a 4.0 GPA scale.
I’m freaking out right now and I don’t know what to do!!! Now I’m worried that I won’t be able to go to college, what do I need to get in the next 4 six weeks in each class to get a considerably high GPA… Please help! I’m willing to study day and night if necessary!
Calm yourself. It’s exceedingly rare that classes in middle school factor into GPA. One C and one B will not ruin your GPA anyway. For math, because you really do not want to take Algebra 1 in high school, use Khan Academy. Calm down. It will be okay.
Yeah, I wish I’d known about Khan Academy earlier. My parents made me retake it in eighth grade (I had an 85!) and it was the literal worst. I’d try for a B for this six weeks, and A- for the next one, and so on. Good luck!
I agree with @awesomepolyglot . Take a breath. You still have plenty of time to pull your grades up. I bet now that you are motivated to bring them up, you should be able to pull up Alg I to a B at least, maybe even an A if you really work hard, and Art up to an A. B and A’s are perfectly acceptable grades especially when you are early in your high school career and still figuring things out.
Colleges look on upward trends in GPA favorably, from what I hear, as they show you are improving and putting forth effort. Like what was already said, some high schools don’t take into account your grades from middle school and even some colleges (Like Berkley and UCLA) don’t take into account freshman year. Just try harder to bring those grades up and you will be fine.
First thing to do is ask your teacher for help. What do you do wrong? What do you need to focus on?
Listen to what they say and take notes. Take it seriously.
Your algebra grades are slipping, so go see your teacher frequently. Perhaps ask for a tutor at the HS.
First of all Middle School grades don’t get taken in to account as long as you get a passing grade in the class. I had a B in algebra 1 in middle School and I was sad but the counselor said that they only care for a passing grade. Art is just an elective that really I can’t help you on and it doesn’t really matter in high school if you are a stem major which won’t affect gpa. If you really want advice, I would suggest go to another algebra 1 teacher in your middle school and ask for practice questions that will help you day before a test. That is all I can say.
^This depends, each high school and each college does things differently. Just because Lolkar’s HS does things like this doesn’t mean all HS do…
Art is a requirement in many states and is a requirement for California universities, regardless of major (because for a fulfilling adult life and a life well-lived, having an appreciation/understanding of art, and an ability to create, is essential - even if it was just a tiny bit you did as a teenager.)
Going to another teacher after consulting your own is a good idea, as is asking for a tutor at the HS, but going straight to another teacher will give the wrong idea, that you’re trying to “go around” your own teacher, and between your own teacher being irked and the other teacher’s likely reaction, I would strongly advise you not go see another teacher right away.
Check the policy in your school district. In ours, high school classes taken in middle school result in credits on the high school transcript, but not grades. The credits count toward graduation requirements but are not factored into the grades.
Middle school grades are not going to be the grades that keep you out of college alone. To do better, go in for extra help everyday until you understand the material being taught, and when you are at home use Khan Academy. Also, just going in for extra help might not be the “magic” fix and you will still need to study home, don’t think extra hell will automatically fix your problems without the effort at home.
It’s you again? Gosh… These are middle school classes. Colleges will most likely not ask for your grades in these classes, much rather, they will ask if you passed (and therefore receive credit). CALM. YOURSELF. DOWN. If you freak out this much in 8th grade, how will you even begin to grasp high school “stress” (I use quotation marks because it’s minute compared to the real world). You wanna know what I was doing in eighth grade? Having fun. If I didn’t worry about anything, my grades wouldn’t go down the toilet (I maintained a 4.0 throughout 7th and 8th grade).
If these grades go on your transcript, they will matter somewhat. The high school classes I took last year are on my transcript, but that varies (directly or inversely? haha just kidding) from school to school. Also, the classes were not factored into my GPA (Thank god, I made all A’s, but middle schoolers cannot take honors classes (once again, in my district)).
