Ok so I screwed up freshman year because my grandfather became a severe heart patient and i suffered from depression but this year i did alot better and my gpa was 4.0 UW and freshman year was 3.1 UW i am planning on taking ap and honors in the rest of the two years and if i get a really high gpa the rest of hs with really good ec (i am making a club for autism awareness too) and overall become better do you think i would still have a chance at ivies because it has been my dream since forever it is just that through depression and alot of other stuff going on it became hard focus on school
It won’t be your freshman GPA that hurts. It will be your crimes against the English language. All kidding aside, please go back and reformat your post, using capitalization and punctuation. And you will be much happier if you don’t get obsessed with the Ivies. Enjoy your last two years of high school, and find some colleges where you will be a good fit.
It is way too early to think about specific colleges (especially the hyper-competitive ones). You just have one full year’s GPA and you have no standardized testing. You also need to recognize that HS should be an experience in and of itself – a time of learning and growth and not just a 4 year college application prep experience.
It is good to take school seriously and know that college will be on your horizon, but it is too early to start planning for specific colleges. I would highly recommend that you get off of CC until your junior year.
For now you should focus on:
–Working hard, learning, and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Get involved in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.
When the time comes you should cast a wide net in terms of school and apply to a mix of reach, match, and safety schools based on your academic stats. Stop focusing on Ivy schools only – there are tons of great colleges that can give you a wonderful experience and get you where you want to go in life.
This is the most uplifting comment I’ve gotten and literally calmed me down from months of anxiety. Thank you haha
