Screwed up in my academics, need help

I am currently a 4th year undergraduate student. This year, I messed up pretty badly in my academics. And now I am faced with my current situation. I have 18 more credits before I finish my degree. I am wondering if I should:

Pay 25k in tuition to finish up my degree in a semester with a 2.6-2.7 gpa. I do not know if this low gpa would greatly affect job prospects.

Transfer to a local college. Pay 11k in tuition to get a degree in about two years (I think only 60 credits typically transfers?). I believe I would get a new gpa?

Some background info:
I am currently suspended from my institution until spring 2014. I plan on appealing this status. If my appeal does not go through, it would be another year before I finish up my degree in sociology. I am aware that this is not a very lucrative field.

If I transfer to a different college I may change my major. However, I am uncertain if being on suspension and my 2.6 gpa would decrease my chances of transferring.

I am not sure if I sure prioritize money or time. My family does not make a lot of money at all and I owe 30k in loans. Does anyone know if financial aid is awarded after the original 8 semesters? I spoke with my fin aid office and they stated 'it really depends'.

I would greatly appreciate any insights on this matter and any advice on whether I should go with option 1 or 2, or if there is another option that I missed? Thank you!

Also, I cannot finish my degree by taking summer courses outside of my college. I can only have 6 external credits transfer over. And 12 credits is still full-time at my college so I would still pay 25k in tuition.

Contrary to my prior assumption, up to 90 credits my transfer over. If this is true, and if I stick with my current major, I can potentially graduate in one year and pay 5.5k

Being on suspension and having a GPA of 2.6-2.7 may affect your chances of transferring. Check the transfer requirements of the school you wish to attend.

You will get a “new” GPA only in so much as you can say that your GPA at X school is Y. If you apply to grad school, you will need to submit transcripts from all schools you’ve attended, and they will see your old GPA as well.

If you can transfer to your local college and pay much lower tuition fees, I think you should go with that option. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about how financial aid works.

Best of luck!

The reason for your suspension may affect your ability to transfer. With a 2.6, it’s not an academic case, so either behavioral or financial, either of which could send up flags at the local college.

Are you happy at your current school? Will a degree from your current college open more doors? Will 25k to graduate from there create a hardship (if you have to borrow it, the answer is yes)? The local school looks like a better deal, honestly.
