I did really awful my Sophomore year (2.0) and I'm wondering if there's still a chance I can get into a good school (UCLA, USC, Berkeley)?

Just background info, I plan on a C.S. major, Design minor. I got a 3.0 freshman year and I have straight A's so far this year. I plan on retaking Spanish 1 this summer. taking Pre-Calc over the summer and Calc my senior year. I have played sports every year, I'm class treasurer, and I know C++, Java, JS, HTML, CSS and Python. I'm also Top 5% in the PSAT I took last year.

I screwed up my sophomore year too; suffered from terrible clinical depression. The following year I got straight A’s and bumped my GPA back up significantly. I say just try really hard this year and when you apply to colleges, specify your academic decline. If you make a significant improvement you may have a chance. Dont sweat it.

With a 3.0 freshman year and a 2.0 for all of sophomore year, Cal, UCLA and USC are highly unlikely. However, many quality schools remain accessible. Do your best going forward and focus on the open doors - not the closed ones.

There are many Cal States and some privates that would welcome you with your current GPA. If you are interested in the Cal States and/or UC’s, you need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA.<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

Some Cal States that come to mind are Channel Islands, San Marcos, Monterey Bay, Sonoma and privates such as Whittier, Redlands and Azusa Pacific. You might have a chance at UC Merced or Riverside, but the rest of the UC’s average GPA are at 4.0+. Use the Supermatch feature on this website to help you with some choices and Good Luck.
