I am getting an F in a class and I was wondering if anyone knows if it will hurt me even if i make it up in winter intersession which ends in late January? Anyone ever heard of a situation like this? When do the UC's usually request Fall grades? Don't sugar coat it.

Doing well on the final to get 2.0 dude.

they request fall grades sometime in February, is it a UC transferable course? Both calculations will go into your GPA so it will hurt your gpa for UC either way.

^ Um no i believe if he retakes the class the new grade replaces the old one.

It is a UC transferable course and I hope El Barto is right.

you should able to show the winter grade also..

The UC will still see the F there when you report it but it won't be in the calculation if you make it up with a passing grade

Thanks for the responses guys, you are right about it replacing it and being able to report the winter grade. I just got off the phone with UC admissions and they verified this in case anyone is in the same situation. Good luck everyone.

^ so as long you are able to report the winter grade, the uc will use that grade over the one we have on previous record like say fall 2007?? BUT i read that when they do GPA calculation they will only use your fall grades only, we can report winter grades but they won't use it to the GPA calculation...

no. it may replace the other in terms of credit but not on the transcript. both will show up. you can only petition for acadmeic forgiveness two years after the grade is out.

plus what nancie said. winter will not really be considered tho you will be prompted to list planned courses

nancie, where did you read winter grades won't be consider in the gpa? i've asked other people who've asserted the same thing before, and i got no answer

ucdadmissions, do you know?

here's something i just found

The Application Update form must be completed by February 15 to ensure that your latest grades and in-progress or planned coursework are considered in the admissions process. However, UC Davis has a priority deadline of January 31. There is no guarantee that campuses will accept updates after their stated deadlines, and failure to meet these deadlines may jeopardize your admission.

There is no need to wait for winter intersession grades - fill in the form without them. You may submit another update if your winter intersession grades become available before the deadline.

If your in-progress or planned (i.e., winter or spring) class schedule changes or if you receive D or F grades in your winter coursework, immediately update this form. If your planned coursework changes or you receive D or F grades in winter coursework after the Application Update deadline, then you must notify the admissions office at each UC campus to which you applied.

What is the University's policy on repeating courses?

A student may repeat a course in which he or she received a letter grade of D or F. Only the most recent grade is counted when calculating the GPA; degree credit for the course is given only once. Repetition of a course with an original grade of C or higher is disregarded; the original grade is counted when calculating the GPA.
UC does not limit the number of times a student may repeat a course in which he or she earned a D or F. A student may not retake a course at a community college to raise the grade received at a UC campus. UC courses in which a D or F was received may be repeated only during a regular session (including summer sessions) at a UC campus. However, all original and repeat courses should be noted on the application.

so, if the most recent grades, which can replace failing grades, are considered in the gpa, and winter session grades are the most recent grades, then winter grades are considered in the gpa??

philosophy majors help me out

If you have the winter intersession grade to report on the update form then the campuses should use that grade to replace the fall grade. Please use the additional comments section of the update form to explain the failing grade and successful plan to complete the course in during the winter session.
