okay. i think i’m screwed. i am a junior and have like a 3.87 and good e.c’s but my ACT score is just horrible. my highest, out of the two i’ve taken, is a 22. by the end of my senior year i will have taken 2 AP’s. blahhhh. i suck at taking timed tests. i want to get into the University of Minnesota-twin cities at the liberal arts college but i might have to end up applying to the general college…

Just work in the regular college for a year or two then you apply for admission into the school of your choice. After a year in college your ACT scores will matter about as much as your 2nd grade profiency test scores.

Don't worry too much about it. there are a lot of great colleges that are very lenient in the admission process. Best wishes to you, but I think you'll be ok

Your GPA is decent. However, I suggest you boost your ACT. Get used to the timed tests by actually taking practice time tests. You can use the summer to grow comfortable with it. The ACT is fairly easy material; however, many individuals are incapable of dealing with the time constraints--do not feel like an outcast.

Practice, Practice. Good luck

Have you ever taken the SAT? I'd give it a try, I'm sure many people would disagree with me, but I had less trouble meeting the time limits on it. Of couse, I've only done the old SAT. Also, the ACT section that i liked least was science, and SAT doesn't have that. The tests are different enough that it would be worth giving them both a try rather than just taking one over and over (a lot of kids at my school do this--take ACT 6 times and never even try SAT)

yeah i hate the science and the reading section the most. actually, science was my best score the first time then the worst the second time. i've heard different things about the sats. my brother said it was easier than the act, then everyone i talk to say the SATs are harder than the act.

Have you tried just the SATs? Like CynthiaR said, for some, the SAT > ACT. Sometimes, vice versa. ACT is not necessarily easier or harder than the SAT. It depends on the person, and their comfort tests.

Ya...I agree that you should try the SATs....While I did not do poorly on the ACT, I had a little trouble with the time limits on it...With the SATs I was done with each section with plenty of time to check my answers twice...and I did much better on the SATs....So, if the time limit feels really constricting to you, just try the SATs (if that option is available to you...)

i had the same experience as Cynthia. while i thought the ACT was much easier, i worked until the very last second on each section. i have taken the SAT three times, counting today, and i finished every section with about 5 minutes left but still thought it was harder. however, my ACT score is higher than SAT so far. so, definitely work on raising the ACT score, but you should take the SAT too. you might think it's easier. good luck!

thanks everyone. i have one more chance to boost my ACT score. haha. i don't really want to take the test in september because i'll be applying then. but i'm sure i'll get into u of m because the general college most students have a 21 or lower on their act and in the lower half of their graduating class. i'm in the top 85%...

Years ago when I took the ACT I got a 21 and I ain't no dumber than...Screw it I forgot the topic

WMD: you mean, the top 15% of your class. ;)

FWIW, I definitely do recommend taking the SAT I at least one time. The ACT is very tricky in the last two sections and 35 minutes just seems such a short time for the reading and science reasoning. Especially if you tend to stress about testing.

But don't feel so bad even still. So many other factors lead to success in life. You are going to do well; you have the will to, and that is far more important than a test score.

85%...15%. i don't knwo each school denotes it differently;)
