Scripps College's Financial Aid THO.....

I've had such a complicated time trying to figure out how to go to Scripps in the fall. I've already applied to easily 20 scholarships, but it's hard to feel like it's not all in vain. I have about $17,000 gap that i need to fill and i can't even apply outside scholarships to it.

Has anyone else out there gotten her aid package already and is having the same problem? I felt the need to vent because it's so frustrating. It's such an amazing school and yet it seems like loans is the only way to bridge the gap.

You’re only allowed $5,500 in loans; did you get work-study (if not, can you email the office of financial aid and see if you can get a work study award?) that would add about $2,500.
That still leaves $9,000: if your family can’t afford their EFC - Scripps “meets need” -, you need to regroup and find other colleges that will be affordable. Which other colleges have you applied to? Had you run the Net Price Calculators? If not, you may want to do that because Scripps ’ package may be similar… or different… from other colleges you applied to. If all packages are unaffordable, what’s your safety (safety = like it, can afford it).

Hey MYOS!
Thanks for the advice. Are you a current Scripps student because it seems like you know a fair amount about their financial aid situation. Luckily I do have Willamette U as a safety school, so I have a lot better options just in case. :D

Put together as many resources as you can - then meet with the financial aid people and explain your specific situation. Financial aid departments are known to bend when given a good reason.
