<p>On the supplement PDF file on the official website, it says that the supplemental essay can be "no more than a page (or 500-word limit)." Following this guideline, my essay came out to be about 490 words. It was perfect. </p>
<p>HOWEVER, when I went to submit the essay on CommonApp Scripps Supplement it said, "no more than a page (or 2000-character limit)." However, my essay, although 490 words, is around 2800 characters!!!</p>
<p>I don't know what to do! I was all ready to submit it. I had worked on it for so long. I really don't feel like massacring it by cutting out a large chunk.</p>
<p>So, two questions: What do they mean by "a page" - do they mean double-spaced? or single-spaced? And would it be really bad if I just submitted my 490-word essay, following the guidelines of the PDF?</p>

<p>I know that the Common App doesn’t cut you off at the word count for the personal statement-- unsure if that will apply to the supplements as well. However, in the past, the common app has cut people off at the word or character count, and it would be a shame for your beautifully crafted essay to be cut off mid-sentence! But, don’t massacre it yet! </p>
<p>In general, it’s best to err on the side the common app directions, BUT given that you’re within the PDF guidelines, I’d urge you to call the office of admission on Monday morning to check with them. People have already begun to turn in their apps, so they may be able to tell you whether your essay will be cut off if you turn it in full-form. </p>

<p>I took a look at the supplement and those are kind of fun questions! (new-ish, also) My year we just had to create a list of all the books we’d read in class and for fun, in addition to the “Why Scripps?” question.</p>
<p>I uploaded the doc to common app, but obviously haven’t submitted the supplement yet. I clicked on print preview and it didn’t appear to cut anything off, but I guess that I shouldn’t rely too much on that. I guess my best bet is to call the admissions office. I was just hoping to turn it in this weekend since I have exams next week. :(</p>
<p>If it looks ok under print preview, I bet you’re fine. Never hurts to ask an authority though, in a case like this.</p>
