If you plan to apply to Scripps, it's important to apply early for the JES scholarships (the deadline last year was Nov 1). I had a friend who didn't know about these scholarships until too late to apply.

See, this early deadline puts you in the pool to compete for about 40 half-tuition and a 1 or 2 (I forget) full-ride scholarships at a really insanely fun weekend in the spring where Scripps pays for your air fare and hotel room. I went, and it was a blast, and though I decided not to go--I got the half-tuition scholarship, but Scripps still wasn't affordable--I really liked Scripps and loved getting flown down to SoCal and spending a weekend with a bunch of other high-school seniors. Also, these scholarships are the bulk of the merit aid the school offers. So make sure to apply early!

To clarify, you don’t have to apply early decision. You just have to send in your application by November 1, to qualify for the scholarships.

Does anyone have any idea of the stats you need to be considered for the scholarships?

i’ve heard 34 or 35 on the ACT

D has 2320 on SATs. Would that make her in the running? Is standardized scores all they look for?

I can’t say anything about test scores, though 34-35 is a little high.

Most finalists I met at the weekend had a 4.0 uw.

so, i have a 4.0 uw and a 34 ACT…
do i stand a chance?

Yes, definitely apply. I don’t remember what my ACT score was exactly but I think it 32-33.

Does anyone know when the finalists are notified?

You will have to wait a bit. The scholars weekend is in February, and finalists are notified several weeks before (mid-January, IIRC).
