Scripps v/s HMC for biology

How should one compare HMC v/s Scripps for majoring in biology and possibly headed for graduate work in biomedical sciences? What is the track record / reputation of the Joint Science Department that Scripps feeds v/s the Biology department at HMC as far as a grad school placement is concerned?

Over in the HMC board, I posted the same question. One poster's response was that "Scripps is not even close" - even though he admitted that Biology is the weakest of HMC's departments and the strongest among JSD majors. The thoughts here?

Thanks in advance for your insights.

I have nothing but hearsay to offer. My D who is planning on a bio major was also drawn to Mudd but the info session convinced her that Scripps would be the better choice. If yo look at the Mud catalog you can see that their core is really intense and focused primarily on sciences other than bio. She thought that the integrated science opps at Scripps plus the whole integrated everything approach there was a better fit for her. Remember too that Scrippsies can take classes at Mudd. It’s the best of both worlds in her opinion

I also don’t have much personal experience with the Scripps bio department. I know biology is the most popular among science majors here, and that many people are pre-med. I’m not sure how grad school placement is, but if you go here:[Scripps College : Life After College](Campus Life | Scripps College in Claremont, California)
And click on the different classes on the left side of the page, it shows that between 15-20% of Scrippsies have gone on to grad school in some form or another a year after graduation, and there’s a breakdown by what they’re studying and a list of the grad schools they went to.

I think that Joint Science will have better resources than HMC because it draws from multiple schools where bio is popular, whereas the Mudd program in general seems more focused on math/physics/engineering.
