Scripps vs. Berkeley

YAY! I got into Scripps and I'm psyched. I don't know what my financial aid is like yet because my mom had to fill out an extra form. I should hear soon.

But I also got into Berkeley, with GREAT aid: almost a free ride except for some loans.

I really like Scripps and think that it would suit me perfectly. I was really looking for a smaller school and more of a feel of community. But Berkeley's starting to be so tempting. My family is wondering why there's even a decision to make :). While I'm in college I want to be where I like it better, but will this make a difference later on? Scripps is starting to become a little more known I think, but I wouldn't even have to worry about that at Berkeley.

Any advice? Wanna convince me I won't be giving up something I'll regret later by not going to Berkeley?

Hmm, where does your family want you to go? I think that you will find your niche at any school. I heard great things about Scripps and it's actually not that small b/c they combine with other claremont colleges. UCB is a great choice though because it's well known and prestigious. Here's a question: What does Scripps have that you want, but UCB doesn't have? and vice versa...you may find that either school has everything you want that you thought it didnt.

I am going to Pomona next year and I was accepted to CAL as well. However, the Claremont Colleges are too awesome to pass up for Berkeley in my opinion. If I were in your situation, it would really depend on the money. Obviously, what you want sometimes isn't what you get and you have to settle for the cheaper (yet, still great) option.

Do you want a smaller school? If money isn't an option, think about what you want because in reality, Berkeley and Scripps are two completely different places.

Good luck Lindsay.

Lindsay, I suggest you look at the college decision making guide in the Parents forum. Might help!
