Okay, so I was admitted early to CIT (including ECE) but not to SCS. I did put down SCS as my 2nd choice after CIT at the time I've applied, but I know that probably did not affect my acceptance. Now, I am also thinking about studying CS. Is it possible to double in Computer engineering and science? Or maybe just do SCS by transferring? How hard is it, considering I was rejected the first time, to transfer then? I do have substantially better test scores since the time I've applied... will that help? Sorry for all these questions, but now I would really love to study CS more than CE (although I still like both).

I don't think you were rejected because when you apply early you only get consideration for one school. If you put down SCS as your 2nd choice they probably never even considered you for SCS.

So the good news is you weren't rejected :)

I'm not sure about anything else related to transferring or double majoring because I'm also beginning to attend next year.

My roommate in undergrad was an ECE major and was able to minor in CS without too terrible of difficulty (over already majoring in ECE, that is). He only made it harder on himself by taking the hardest classes in ECE and CS, though.

thanks for the reply.
I really hope that I wasn't "rejected" from SCS. Also, knowing that there is somebody doing both ECE and CS is reassuring. Right now, I'm not too afraid of difficult or rigorous schedules. I just want to learn as much as I can. But, I also know that might not stay true when I actually get to college, so I'll keep in mind the rigor of SCS at CMU.

I was in a situation identical to yours (around mid Jan), having been admitted early to CIT, but wanting to change to SCS. I sent an email to the admissions office, and after a bit of correspondence, I got transfered to SCS. If you really want to go to SCS, it shouldn't be to hard to change.

As for being rejected, if you get your first choice, you are simply not considered for your second choice. You are not actually rejected. The decision for SCS in 'Where am I in the Process?' should say 'cancelled'.

Sorry - I know this thread is over a month old but I wanted to point out that I think you were rejected from SCS this time around. I applied for SCS, IS, and CIT (in that order) and my admission letter said that I was accepted to all three. However, if you maintain a great GPA you should be able to transfer…it’s not easy but it’s not impossible, from what I’ve heard.

I don’t actually attend the school (yet - still considering) so I might be wrong…

transfer now so they can open up spots for me in CIT off the wait-list! :)

Kitczh-you might have not noticed in the original post-he applied early decision. For ED, you can ONLY apply for one school. So if you apply for 5, fine, but they only consider your top choice for ED. As expected and explained by the admissions office-when my son was rejected from his first choice (for ED), the rest of the schools said “cancel”. Then he was considered by the other 4 schools for RD, and luckily got into one of them.

Hey, I see my old thread is back up. I checked my admissions letter again and now I’m pretty sure I was rejected from SCS. However, I don’t really feel the urgent need to transfer to SCS as soon as possible. I’m thinking of maybe just getting a minor in CS along with a major in either EE or CE (I decided I liked making/learning about electronics a little better than algorithms and other cool cs topics like AI). I may, however, instead decide to minor in something else, or take some high level MechE classes. But, I figure these can wait for when I get on campus and meet an advisor.
Thanks for everyone’s help!
