Does anyone know what the admittance rate off the priority waitlist is into SCS? The letter they sent said 20%, but it wasn't clear if that was for SCS or to all colleges overall.

I was waitlisted SCS for fall 2011 and I have never heard of the ‘priority waitlist’.
What is it? How does it work?

Also, I was accepted MCS and am dead set on majoring on Compsci in university. Is it possible to do a Computational Finance and CS double major or a Mathematical Sciences (concentrating in Logic and discrete math) and CS double major?

both of these options in MCS seem to have reasonable overlap to justify a CS double major

Is it possible to transfer to SCS alltogether?

Thanks

I’m not sure if they offer the priority waitlist option to everyone (if they did it would’ve been in your decision letter). It’s basically a waitlist for people who are going to commit to coming to CMU, sort of like ED for waitlists, though I don’t think it’s as legally binding. You also find out on May 6th, as opposed to whatever the regular waitlist notification date is.

Last year apparently they didn’t even take anyone from the SCS waitlist. I think the 20% is overall. I believe the overall percentage from last year was around 17%.

Last year they overshot their incoming SCS class size a bit, which is probably why no one came off waitlist. A friend of mine visited and he said they noted that they’ve pared down the 2015 class this year to compensate.

There’s nothing legal involved with college admissions. Think agreement, sometimes with consequences.

^ Which is $800 dollars if you get accepted, even if you choose not to enroll.
