FYI. SCS's Freshman advisor, Professor Pattis apparently has a link to a pdf that lists how each student did on the Discrete Math and Calc tests with what course they'd be allowed to register for. I'm away from home and haven't heard if everyone has already recieved this information or not.

http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~pattis/advising/advising.html

Bottom of the page.

I also saw that yesterday. He said that he's going to send out an email about it today.

(Disclaimer: the following two paragraphs are based on cursory examination of the data and may not be fully accurate ^^; )

Apparently some of the people he recommended for 15-211 are being moved to 15-113 (system skills in C) depending on discrete math scores. Anyone who got credit for 15-200 (via 5 on AP CS AB) but didn't do really well on the discrete math test will have to take 15-113 and 21-127 first semester.

It also looks like people who scored 5 on Calc BC but got less than 5/6 on the diff eq section of the placement test will have to take 21-122 (integration, differential equations, and approximations) even though most of that material was covered in Calc BC.

I fall into both of those groups, so I'm pretty confused/frustrated right now (mostly about wasting time in a calc course in which I'll learn very little new material if any and which will prevent me from taking advanced courses first semester for which 21-122 is a prerequisite). I got 37/40 on the placement test and 4/6 in the last section, yet it looks like I'll still have to retake Calc II. Hopefully he'll outline some way to petition for credit in the email.

(By the way, if you're reading that table: CMU ID = SSN)

Yeah, I fall into both of those categories too, and I'm also EXTREMELY upset that I might have to take 21-122, even though we covered like 95% of that class in BC calc.

If we don't get credit for 21-122, that would mean that our 5's on BC calc give no more credit than a 4 on AB calc. We might as well have not even taken BC calc, just taken AB. It's retarded. I really hope he realizes that and fixes it.
