Is it possible? When i visited in november, my host and his friends (who were not athletes) seemed pretty confident that you could not participate in a varsity sport and still keep up, much less excel, with the SCS workload. Can anybody confirm if this is actually the case? The sports in question are track and field and soccer.

I know that intramural options are available too, and they are probably where I will end up (and this is all pending on my admissions decision), but I would like to know if varsity sports are really just too much of a time sink at CMU.

My nephew was a varsity soccer player (graduated 2006), and my neice is one now there. She is in business, he was in engineering. Definitely worked hard, but handle(d) it just fine, and have/had social lives as well. It can be done! Both love(d) the school. BTW, my S applied RD- waiting....

Definitely possible. One of my friends was on varsity football, the president of his fraternity, double majored within CIT, and had over a 3.75 GPA.
