SCSU or U of M (CSOM)?

Which is better, the G. R. Herberger College of Business at SCSU or Carlson School of Management at U of M?

I know that CSOM is probably better, but how much better?

I'm currently running in community college with a GPA of about 3.5. Hoping to major in business and I'm not sure how to make my choice. I'd love to go to CSOM, but I'm not very confident of getting a place; just would like to know how's the next best alternative like.

Carlson school of Management is waaaay better  And it’s also more well known & reputable than the program @ St. Cloud.

I’ve also heard that SCSU has a good business program…and even the CEO of wells fargo went to SCSU, right?

just pick the U of MN (the U) over SCSU…that should be a no brainer. It’s sooo much better than SCSU. seriously.

However, Carlson is getting pretty selective according to my counselors at school. Good luck getting in :)

can i ask what do criteria you base your judgement upon?

i would like to major in business and then follow up (hopefully) with a MBA. heard that going to SCSU business for the basic degree and then doing a MBA program at CSOM would also be a good idea. what do you think?

^ Lol…i’m just basing this off of the general knowledge I have.

I think that’s a good idea then…getting your bachelor’s degree at SCSU & your MBA at the U of M.

On a related note, why don’t you also look into UPenn’s Wharton school for getting your MBA? :)

great idea! but it’s kind of far from where i am (bloomington) and i don’t really wanna move. i mean, u of m tc is probably a lot more convenient than going to scsu but i think it could be a good alternative if i can’t get into csom. :/

LOOOL i’m gonna guess that you go to Normandale then? :stuck_out_tongue: I was thinking about going to that CC as a back up just in case  But it seems nice though since I know a lot of people that go there or do pseo at normandale :)

Aaah at least youre like 3 mins away from MOA =] I’m gonna move to e-town soon …aka Eagan so I’ll be closer to bloomington (like 5 mins? haha)

but yeaahhh i totally agree. If you want to stay where you are then go for SCSU for ur bachelor’s & then Carlson for ur MBA.

But try to keep your options open though  try looking into Northwestern (closer to MN), NYU Stern & UPenn Wharton :)

Good Luck again! I hope u get in and try applying! I’m sure you’ll have an excellent shot :)

edit: but the only downside i see as u mentioned is how SCSU is so far away (1.5+hrs?)…:(

haha… yeah, got that right… so where are you studying now? normandale’s a pretty good place, and i’m having a great time there…

i’ll probably check out with my advisor when i’m back in school…

thanks for your help and advice!

SWHS  I don’t wanna hijack ur thread but do you mind telling me a bit about Normandale??! The only thing I was worried about going to a CC is lack of social life  how are the classes & professors?

well, it’s good… i mean, the classes are small, professors are good at what they do (those that i’ve had the luck of encountering so far)… pretty good for doing up a couple of credits - i’d say… it’s a nice place to be… if you wanna know more, maybe you should make a trip down a take a look. :)

oh yeah, and don’t forget to do an internship over the summer sometime in the future so ur app will look good grad/business school :)[and for experience] since of course there are a ton of opportunities in the twin cities :)

sounds like a plan… but i’m looking to transfer by spring… not sure how much that’ll affect my prospects though… i’d think i have a good chance of getting into scsu, at least…
