Santa Clara accepts by school not major unless you applied to the Comp Sci & Engineering Major.
@sunnyschool
@dubbe408 What about CS in Arts & Sciences?
@sunnyschool : I am in the same boat. I wrote to SCU Admission and they clarified to me " Yes, since you indicated Computer Science at the time of the application you are automatically in that major".
@sunnyschool Santa Clara accepts by school not major accept for the Comp Sci& Engineering
@sunnyschool When I asked about Comp Sci in College of Arts they indicated admissions would be made based on the College of Arts and Sciences
@sunnyschool Weird that many With CS got rejected with super high stats since it would be based on College of Arts and Sciences. Essays and Recommendations played a factor maybe? I saw another post that said SCU rejecting super high applicants since it would be a safety school like Tufts
^Just to be clear, the old term for protecting yield, by denying high stats applicants who would likely attend elsewhere, was called “Tufts syndrome.” However, Tufts is very selective now and is a safety for no one. Because Santa Clara seems to yield protect, it can’t exactly be a safety either, although it might be a particular applicant’s match.
I have not looked through the thread to look at anecdotes denied vs deferred, but from a yield standpoint, Santa Clara could possibly defer a high stats applicant to RD and then admit, waiting to see who drops out in the meantime after having been admitted early someplace else.
@evergreen5 Thanks for the info some people got above 1500’s and got deferred.
Hey, I am trying to view my financial package but it keeps refreshing like you said, will it be fixed by itself eventually? thanks.
I think it is yield protection (Tufts Syndrome) combined with super competitive admissions for CS this year at any top school. The deferral rubbed my son the wrong way - and we were hoping for merit which we thought would be better in EA - so he moved on to focus on other schools.
@sunnyschool very true
