SCU EA - can i still get in with below average supplements?

I applied EA to Santa Clara to the Arts and Sciences school. I have a 3.78 UW GPA / 4.02 W GPA and a 30 on my ACT. My ECs are also pretty solid, as well as my personal statement essay. But, I’m really worried about my supplements. I rushed through them and did not make them very good at all. The question about if I visited about Santa Clara could barely be answered because I haven’t visited Santa Clara. For the first and third questions, I had good things to say but I feel like I did not make my writing very good or interesting, and that I didn’t show enough interest or knowledge in the school itself. Do you think these supplements will most likely make me not get in, or will I still have a shot since everything else about my application is slightly above their average admitted freshman?

Are you kidding? have you looked at the common data set? This is not a hard school to get into… My concern for you is that the adcom might think you’re using it as a safety, and not accept your application for yield protection. If this is your top choice (or one of your top choices), perhaps consider emailing the admissions office stating as such.

I know with my stats I would still have a pretty good chance of getting in, I’m just worried that perhaps they would admit someone with slightly worse stats but better supplements over someone (me) with better stats but worse supplements. I assume that admissions has most likely already made their decisions for the EA applicants, so I don’t think I will email admissions, but thank you for the good suggestion!

If I can say this, many people, especially those in the “recruiting” positions, are very good at those who try to bs their way into something. I realized that after being denied a spot for a business fraternity at SCU. Saying this, if you feel like you wrote less than your best, college admissions can most likely pick up on that fact. Stats are one portion of admissions; supplements make up a large, if not larger, part of your chances to get in. If possible, I would spend this next month rewriting/reediting to increase that chance for you to get in. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!
