SCU Transfers 2016

Hey everyone,
I’m creating this post for all the potential transfer students for winter/fall 2016. I am currently a 2nd year at a CC and I’m applying as a biology major for the fall 2016 quarter. Is there anyone else applying to SCU for the 2016 school year? I’d love to hear what majors you are applying for and what your stats look like. I really hope I get into this school would really enjoy hearing from other potential transfers!

I applied for the Econ major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Haven’t heard anything back yet, which is worrying me. I know last year they released decisions starting in March but they must have changed it this year. Have you gotten a decision? @getmeoutofjc

Is the application due tonight or tomorrow before midnight, anyone know?

Tonight at midnight - this is Friday the 15th fyi.

My son applied for the Business school (transfer) in January, he received an acceptance letter the first week of March.

Congrats to your son!! @calmomof2boys
I submitted my application on March 6th and am currently waiting to hear back. I think I have been checking the application status at least five times a day lol

Major: Business Administration intending to minor in entrepreneurship or CS
College GPA: 3.52
International student
Honors student at my current community college
Credits: About 90 units (quarter system)

EC:

  • Founded my own non-profit that aimed to help international students network/interact. Grew it to 380 members, but long story short, the organization is no longer active.
  • Started and am running Humans of xxx at my college.
  • Internships
  • 2 year work experience in customer service
  • 2 year work experience as a photographer

SCU is my TOP choice so fingers crossed!!! Good luck to ALL of us!!!
Will post results when I find out, and I hope that those of you reading this will do so as well!

All the best to you transfer1234scu, loooks like you have great stats!

Freshman at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey applying for mechanical engineering. Bay area native. Hoping to get in but if not, I’ll probably go to a local CC for a semester or two to bump my GPA up and reapply

ACCEPTED!!!
These are my detailed info/stats for people who are still waiting, and any future applicants.

First, I am…
Asian
22 yrs old at time of application
International Student
High School Dropout
GED Diploma

//When applying, some schools required submission of only the GED diploma, while some required both GED diploma and high school transcript. High school transcript showed my horrible grade history full of Fs. I think I had F in every single class except for photography and ethics. Cumulative GPA was 1.8 or something, and I even managed to earn a 0.82 in one quarter. I sent this high school transcript to all of the schools, hoping to show the improvements in academics and character.

//After dropping out, I worked various jobs for 2 years to learn more about myself and the world and to ultimately discover what I wanted to do with my life.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Work & EC (I’m only listing what was on my application/resume)
-1st place, international business case competition for students

-Unpaid internship @ non-profit (ineligible to earn money in the US due to being an international student. I’ve literally lived in the US for 2.5 years so far)

-Founder, an intercollegiate student-run organization that helped Japanese international students network, search for housing/car/etc. Within 6 months it grew to 380 members, but unfortunately the org is no longer active.

-Freelance Photographer
Appeared on TV
Shot for a very very famous energy drink company
Shot for some other small magazines

-Volunteered for a reputable incubator for 3 days

-Founder/Photographer/Graphic Designer, Humans of xxxxxx
Replicated Humans of New York in a smaller and more diverse community for fun
2,000 views/week

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Current School: Foothill College
GPA: 3.47 at time of application. That quarter I worked hard and was able to bring my GPA up to 3.52 and send the new transcript before the decision came out. On the articulation between SCU and my college it says recommended GPA 3.5; I am now curious what would have happened if they made their decision earlier, based on 3.47 GPA
Honors Scholar
Quarter system
SCU recommends taking Math 1A and 1B, but I had already taken Math 12 (Business Calc) and earned a C or C+. Was worried this would significantly affect my chances, but I guess other things compensated.
Not-so-good grades in the first 2 quarters bc I was still adjusting to life in the US.

Personal Statements

//////////////////// Tips /////////////////////////
I spent a LOT of time on the letter of exp and personal statements. Confident that it will impress and leave a lasting impression on most people who read it. I definitely think that my GPA and academic record was below their expectation, and I think I did a good job making up for that by being involved in many ECs and writing the best statements that I have EVER written. I did a lot of EC but all of them fall into category of photography or business. I think consistency is better than just joining every school club you can find. Also, I tried to show my dedication and desire to join the school by using a lot of references. Went to the school, made some good observations, and included my thoughts on what I saw (e.g. I saw students doing xxx at xxx and this convinced me that SCU is a place of xxxx). I happen to go to a community college in the same area, and that’s why I knew that SCU don’t spend much money on marketing/advertising. So, in one of the personal statements, I wrote (I submitted this so if you use this line you will get caught. Don’t try lol) “SCU reflects these very ideals through its reluctance to advertise and willingness to invest in resources and facilities for students, like the…”

I know it’s hard to read… forgive me because im writing this at 3AM when I’m supposed to be doing my hw
Anyways. I’m so glad I got accepted, and best of luck to those who are still waiting, and those who plan to apply in the future!!!

How were you notified? By mail or online?

Actually I woke up to messages from a friend who also applied to SCU, telling me that she got accepted. Then I checked the website, and realized I was accepted too.
I don’t think they send e-mails

you go on the ecampus website, right? I Applied and submitted my application in January and still haven’t heard back! what is going on?!

Yep. I logged in and it said “Congratulations…”
You should make sure that the school received all the documents that you sent.

I did, I double checked, I did everything. I got accepted to pepperdine and their enrollment deadline is may 1st and its a $750 payment too. SCU is my first choice and I am really confused to as why I didn’t get my decision yet doesn’t roll admission mean that the earlier you apply and submit your application the faster your decision is determined? I am currently deciding to just pay the 750 and if i get accepted to SCU its 750 down the drain. What do you think I should do? I called both pepperdine and SCU and discussed my situation they both told me they cant do anything to help. Extremely frustrating.

what time were you notified do you know?

Depends on what you meant by “notified.”
SCU did not reach out to me in any way regarding my acceptance; I found out when I logged in. I checked eCampus the night before but didn’t see any changes, so I’m guessing it changed to “accepted” while I was sleeping.

oh okay.

@Collegestud232 They claim rolling but I don’t think it really is until after march. I applied in early February and i assumed i would get a decision by the end of march. I read that some kids didnt get notified until mid to late may last year.

Oh okay. Have you gotten a decision back yet? I’m so worried

Haven’t heard anything yet. If I dont hear anything by saturday I am going to call and ask them
