SD Dining Food

i was just wondering how the food is at sd?..compared to davis...thanks!

Can someone tell me how the points system at UCSD works, and is it usually enough for a student to live off the base amount, considering that I'd probably eat 2 meals a day?

i've been to davis and i'll tell you the truth, the food does not compare in my opinion LOL. davis' food was amazzzzzzing and i loved the fact that you only had to swipe once to get as many food as you wanted. here at sd, EVERYTHING has a darn price to it, so even if you wanted a refill on your soda or something, you needed to pay for it unlike at davis you can refill as much as you wanted. also, the food at davis had a greater variety (not to mention all those different flavors of frozen yogurt! at sd, there's no like real soft served ice cream/frozen yogurt, you'd have to buy a ice cream bar @_@). the only good thing i can see about sd's food system is that it limits how much you eat since you do essentially have to pay for everything you eat unlike davis where you might pig out at one sitting hehe. also, i don't really remember if davis was the same, but food here are overpriced :/. but if you live on campus, your meal points are included with your housing payment, so all you need is your student id and go into the cafeteria, get all the food you want, then go to the cashier who will add up the total and swipe that amount with your card. the total amount of meal points is like 1800. if you are worried that you might need more than 1800 points, then you can always buy more points :).

aww that sucks..i was hoping it would be buffet like..what about the food? is it good?

I didn't eat at Davis, so I wouldn't know, but I think SD food is pretty decent. I had food at Cal when I visited and I can say for SURE that it's better than at Cal. And this is incorrect: "there's no like real soft served ice cream/frozen yogurt, you'd have to buy a ice cream bar @_@)". At Sierra Summit (in Muir), there's a counter where you can order either smoothies (pretty good) or frozen yogurt or ice cream with mix-ins (like Cold Stone). Also, every dining hall/restaurant has a big thing full of Ben & Jerry pints with pretty varied flavors.

I personally don't care about the whole dining dollar thing, because I figure if we had buffet, it would cost us more, and I don't eat that much anyway so I would theoretically be losing money if we had buffet style. Plus, I don't think people here have as much of a tendency to gain the freshman 15. Actually, I lost 8 pounds my first quarter here and I went down an inch in my jean size (30 to 29).

really?..i ate at cal too..and i thought the food was pretty good..as weird as it may sound, i WANT to gain the freshmen 15 or more lols..pretty skinny

"there's no like real soft served ice cream/frozen yogurt, you'd have to buy a ice cream bar @_@)" i meant like you can't actually get a cone or cup and go up to a frozen yogurt/ice cream machine :P muir's frozen yogurt/ice cream counter has some good stuff (like the triple berry mmmm X]), but seems half the time i try to get something, i either have to wait in a line, or have to wait because the "yogurt" isn't hard enough :/. i remember davis' ice cream machines and there's like a whole big row of different flavors and personally faster for me, so :]

ahah you want to gain pounds? that should be easier than losing pounds LOL ^^ just eat a lot, take the bus instead of walking to your classes, and sit at your desk a lot in your room instead of going to the beach and the gym tehee XD

lols..well i also want to be fit too.lols

Well, the food isn't very healthy, so if you eat a lot, you'll probably gain more than just weight.

And I see what you meant about the fro-yo/ice cream, but I just go to Golden Spoon or Yogurt World (YUM) to fulfill those needs ;).

haha, i live in davis and sometimes my friends and i go 2 the campus 2 eat. its said that ucd has the best cafeteria food and i believe it. but i also ucsd is okay.

ucla has the best food by far.

it's not that good but at least it's food. occasionally something that's very good pops up though. I agree-this system SUCKS. The drinks cost a lot but sometimes you just can't help it. honestly, if you're like most people, you're not getting away with 1800 meal points in a year. I believe CAl's base plan has 2100-2400 ish so you get the point. I really think SD just does this to make more of that moulah off of us.

ucla food made me fat!
