I was accepted to SDSU as a transfer student with a 3.8 GPA. However, I am currently failing two of my classes. I have terrible testing anxiety, but thus far been able to get by and maintain strong grades. This semester, my testing anxiety is so bad that I cannot seem to pass my exams.
Does anyone have suggestions as to what my next move should be? Should I take W’s in my classes, and reapply in a year. Should I continue to try and pass these classes, and take the risk of getting D’s or F’s?
I feel extremely defeated and at a loss for what to do.
My advice is to use the resources of your college immediately!
You have been doing well up until now…what has changed?
Go to the counseling center and talk about your increase in test anxiety this year. You need to find out what has changed. This is important. If you need to, have someone walk you over.
Go to your adviser, and talk about a plan. It may be that if you Withdraw from one class you could possibly do better in the rest. You also have to see how this affects your financial aid or full time status.
If you need to, talk to the dean of students about what to do.
You may need to see a psychiatrist to get evaluated for medications for anxiety. Maybe you can get accomodations for testing such as longer time.
Also talk to your professors and tell them what is happening. They may possibly have other ideas.
Your college has many many resources…take advantage of them. You may need to Withdraw medically (if you get diagnosed you may get your money back too!)
If you have anxiety and have trouble doing this…get someone you trust to help you go through the steps.
