So I will be a senior this upcoming fall, and I have a small(big?) problem. My gpa is a 2.6. Now here’s the thing, I have taken all honors/ ap courses throughout my school career, and the a-g grading system may bump me up to a 3.0, one fall back is I took an online gym class and got a D in it- and that is another factor that is worrying me. Now apart from my gpa I am a well rounded student, I have logged 200+ hours for volunteer work, I will be going to my second year varsity lacrosse season, and three years playing, as well as going to a school in good standing. I have also been president of a club for the second year, and plan to join a few more clubs for my senior year, And I have been playing the violin for 7 years. I am also a Latina(not sure if that will help me at all) in a Colorado college I wouldn’t worry very much about being admitted, but do I have a chance of getting into SDSU?
Also I have a ACT score of 26 but plan or retaking it.
SDSU is a very popular school and has become more selective than most people realize. Fortunately, their admission process and criteria are very transparent. You must take/pass all the classes they prescribe in high school (a-g as they call them) and you must have a competitive Eligibility Index. Miss a single semester of the requirements and you are rejected - no matter what your other qualifications. Fortunately, Gym isn’t on the list.
ECs are not considered at all.
Eligibility Index is simply a combination of your GPA and test scores. Applications are stacked by Index and a line is drawn when the seats are full. As you would imagine, the threshold varies somewhat year to year based on the applicant pool. A 4100 SAT Index and 1000 ACT index are usually sufficient.
Using the SAT
(High School GPA x 800)
Using the ACT
(High School GPA x 200)
- (ACT Composite Score x 10)
GPA is calculated using just whole (no +/-) semester grades in a-g course taken during grades 10 and 11. They cap you at 8 semester AP bonus points. Your CSU GPA may be significantly higher or lower than your overall GPA.
From their website -
Admitted Student Profile
3.75 Average high school GPA
1152 Average SAT
(math and critical reading)
25 Average ACT
4151 Average CSU Eligibility Index
Fiddle with the math yourself but, with a 3,0 you’d need a 40 ACT or 1700 SAT (neither is possible) to meet the current threshold.
Use this tool to calculate your CSU GPA and see where you stand.

Maybe you are in better shape that it looks -
Good luck.
@NCalRent gave you good information in regards to SDSU’s admission process. You need to calculate your CSU GPA using a-g courses from 10-11th grade. Use the link provided above ^^ and only 8 semesters of AP/IB classes can be used for the extra honors points. Like @NCalRent stated, even with a 3.0 GPA, you would not meet the eligiblility index. Each applicant for each major is ranked by EI and then they start accepting from the highest down until all the spots are filled.
Based on your current stats, SDSU is a Reach. If you are OOS, can you afford the full price tag cost of $35K/year with little to no financial aid?
