@“Papa Smurf 613” Each CSU can act as independent entities so they will determine their own acceptance timelines. SDSU likes to lock in some High stat applicants early along with trying to start filling their Honor’s college with competitive students. I believe this has helped SDSU promote and increase their rankings as a competitive and top CSU.
Other CSU’s such as CSU Fullerton will also accept High Stat applicants early with Honor’s college invites. My son’s also heard in December a few years ago for CSUF.
Cal Poly Pomona for the last few years, also notified top students in January along with an invitation to their Showcase of Excellence and Honors college invites.
Why some CSU’s accept Early and some do not, I cannot answer that question.
@my2caligirls and @Gumbymom, thanks for the responses - we checked and he is actually just “Undeclared” (I was wrong when I said College of Letters and Science). On the calstateapply.liaisoncas dashboard page, the status is “Complete.” I guess we will call to check - thanks for the suggestion. I wouldn’t have thought to do that because it’s so early, but it does seem odd that he hasn’t been notified since there are few variables for CSUs other than stats and his are high.
@pickledginger I don’t think any admissions decisions are sent through the CalStateApply system… I think we all got emails from SDSU for logins to an SDSU Sunspot portal, where the admission decisions are posted.
Check the email that you entered in the application and login there! Hopefully there’ll be good news
Thanks to @jschell and @my2caligirls who let us know we we needed to look at the SDSU Red ID portal, not CalStateApply - I love how helpful and informative CC people are!
The Red ID portal says “Pending,” so no good news yet. Just thought I’d post this for others who might be making the same mistake as us. Maybe they have good news!
My son just received an acceptance by mail, have no idea what the portal says. Postmark date is Dec 22. The letter says “Given your excellent academic record, you are among a select group of freshman receiving early notification of admission to SDSU”…

S accepted for Business Administration but wants to change it to Business Finance. Is this difficult to get approved at SDSU? He is applying for Weber Honors - CSU GPA 3.94, 32 ACT, In-state.
Quick question, for those who received acceptance, do you also receive emails? Or just by checking the portal? @BayAreaMom15 received from mail, I wonder if there are different ways to find out? We checked the portal once and it says decision normally would come early March. My DD’18 may not have such high stats for honor (CSU GPA 3.67, 1440 SAT), so I wonder if we should just wait for March. However, it’s so excited to see you all received early acceptance, and hope we could be on the same boat!
@my2caligirls , my DD will not apply Honor, thanks for the information. She said she will not attend CSUs if she got accepted to any UCs, however, we heard from her cousin who graduated from UCD on how tough it is to adjust to quarter system, DD is reconsidering CSUs. She is not very good with time management and tend to take time to understand things, quarter system (10week) sounded pretty intense, with midterm in 4th week, final and project due on 9th and 10th week.
@my2caligirls actually, her wanting to attend UCs is strictly peer pressure, she would be fine in any CSUs and I think she would do better and happier than attending an UC. But peer pressure, relatives expectations, she doesn’t want to disappoint others.
@jjkmom: Your DD should choose for herself and no one else. Happy students= Successful students. Tell her to forget about peer pressure and relatives expectations since if she caves into their wants, she will end up disappointing herself.
@jjkmom I have to agree that I would do everything possible to ignore the peer pressure and expectations of others. There are programs at CSU’s like SDSU and SLO that are as good or better than what many UC’s have to offer. In fact, in some areas the UC’s are pretty overrated - no business program except at UCB, UCI, and UCR - seriously?
I have the exact opposite issue that you have with my D18 - she likes very few UC’s and I’d love for her to consider UCLA if she gets in. SDSU (and a couple others) work very well for her career plans which is what matters most - it’s a good fit. Anyways, ignore what others think and go with what works for your D - maybe a UC or maybe a CSU.
